I remember the squeaking tank tracks you can hear before seeing the tank , enough to put the shits up you.

Just like the music in Jaws before the shark turns up , suspense at its best.

Really eerie that never forget that sound. And it goes past them only to back up...urgh

The Guns of Navarone for me.

I do enjoy all the classics though. One that is not mentioned much but I thnk is very good s A Day in the life of Eddie Slovick. About a soldier shot for cowardice/desertion.
GoN for me as well. Saw it at the pictures with me Aunty when I was a kid and have never forgotten it.

We were soldiers. Its one of the only films I can watch again and again. Mel Gibson did a cracking job in my opinion.

Ice Cold In Alex. Cos my uncle was in the ambulance. The Soldier, not the actor.
I was born in '44, so like a lot of others on here I was taught by lads who came back from the war as a youngster. Many were shell shocked. I have real photos but vaguer memories of a smiling man who never spoke about the war, but made me laugh with his stories about the film being made.

The Bridge At Remagen was a great film and this documentary tells the true story. Surprisingly the film was pretty accurate.

In seriousness I liked We Were Soldiers, mainly cos years before it was ever made I read the book written about it by the journalist who was actually there (complete with photo's from his cameraman) and it told the story in great and vivid detail.

It was the first major contact between the Americans and the Vietnamese and crazily the whole war could well have been decided in that battle had it gone a different way... Don't want to go on and spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but IMO definitely worth a watch. Although a good while since I saw it, not sure how it's stood against the test of time. Hell of a (true) story though
We switched Virgin for Sky about a month ago. All the films I recorded but never watched went with the Virgin box, so I started my collection of never-to-be-watched films again by recording this on the Sky box.
Last time I was in getting my hair cut the barber never stopped talking about this one being his favourite.

Suppose there's plenty of time to get round to watching these now...
