Fatigue

Anyone else really struggled with this? Its really been a problem in my life for a long time. Very random as well. Having a bad patch at the moment. I've had all sorts of tests but no diagnosis. I exercise a reasonable amount, am a healthy weight, sleep ok. I've tried reducing carb consumption which I think has helped. Cold baths have been helpful too.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

I have spells now and again where I can barely get out of bed for a few days and it flares up when I’ve been particularly busy. The best thing I’ve found is to be a lazy bastard and if I know I have a busy day then try and make sure I follow it with a lazy day.

I do wonder. Its very random. Have you had a formal diagnosis? I heard it was quite hard to get.
You had autoimmune bloods?
Had loads of blood tests I think inclidong this and nothing back

If you your bloods are fine and it’s not medication, or supplements related chronic fatigue is a possibility.
It’s usually a diagnosis made after everything else is ruled out as there’s no test. That may include assessments from specialists like rheumatologists (probably not in your case if autoimmune bloods are fine) neurologists and assessing for things like sleep apnoea.

It can be worth paying to see an endocinologist and having proper bloodwork and various other tests done.

The standard test from the GP can miss loads of things and the range what they consider "normal" is massive.

Testosterone levels are a big one nowadays as well.

Low Vitamin D was the cause for first my old mate and then me. He said he could have cried most days at work he was so tired. The doctor I consulted put me on 1 x Colecalciferol 800 IU per day pretty much forever I started becoming ridiculously overwhelmed with tiredness during the day even when I'd slept well.

Ive started on vitamin d supplements. I feel much better after about a week but I dont know if its a placebo or something else as I thought it can take several weeks to feel the benefits.

Other than tiredness, do you have any other random odd health issues that pop up ? People can have Sarcoidosis for decades without knowing it and it's notoriously extremely difficult to diagnose with very few experts available. For most people, it just goes away and never bothers them again but for those who don't it is an ongoing need to have a nap here and there even after a good night sleep.

I've had it terribly for a month or so nowt, never felt like it. Been to docs and got tests and I've got really high ferritin and iron levels so they're a bit concerned about that. It's a eye-opener something like this, serious or not, it's knocked me a bit and I've been sleeping like shite since going through tests. Have also, finally, packed in the drink because some of the repercussions can be damage to liver so it's probably the best decision now.

I had a colleague who was diagnosed with high iron levels and he used to fall asleep at his desk. I'd never heard of this but he was told to contact his brother in the U.S (who weirdly I also used to work with years ago) to get tested and he had it as well. He used to go to hospital to get a pint of blood drained off to lower the levels occasionally. My Mother-In-Law's brother has it but my M-I-L doesn't and neither do any of her siblings.

I'm hoping that's what it is and I just need to give blood regularly for it to be kept under control. It's been a shitty monty to be honest, always exhausted but can't sleep cos of running round my head all mad eventualities.

I knew there was something wrong with my colleague. I've never seen anyone as tired and I'd known him for years. I'd do some research online (and ask the NHS to be assigned a dietitian coach) because there will definitely be foods you should avoid that make your iron levels worse. Google generally answers a lot of those questions, but even if it doesn't, it loads you up with important questions to ask the NHS experts during consultations.
