Fan zone in town

There could be a reason why they haven't been able to put in Keel Square. I doubt someone said 'just stick it over there' when there's already an obvious public space.
They had it set up in Keel Square just over a week ago and had to move it because they couldn’t make people pay when effectively it’s outside the botanist

There you go then. It'll be those behind it then that will have wanted it moved. The council will have taken a fee from the organisers and will simply be just accommodating them because of the terms of the lease.

What a load of shite. The fire station and auditorium are stylish as fuck, as is the entire regeneration around the empire, peacock and new culture hub. City hall is a nice looking modern building, the new eye infirmary will be impressive and the new bridge will be a fantastic link to the dozens of new developments in sheepfolds.

The council well and truly have learnt their lesson

Aye zoom in it looks like the Slovenia game to me
Most of those buildings also look very poor. The town hall and eye infirmary are both fairly ugly.

Huge opportunity missed unfortunately. Cheap and ugly :-(

I guess you can’t have a screen up without adding security, additional outside bars, toilets.

If it’s free all of this would have had to be paid for, plus if it’s a big match how do you stop it getting too packed.

I noticed today that they were expanding the hoardings on the culture house, and a big crane there. So could well be a safety issue.
The posts are doing the rounds on Facebook, they've now won the Fanzone cup comparing a photo taken during Slovenia v Denmark against one took there during the England game.

They're actually celebrating that they have more mugs paying a tenner to stand outside in the rain. They really are a special breed.

Surely we’ve had fan zones before in Green Tce etc . Didn’t the pub owners contribute to the costs ? Even if the tax payer had to contribute, it would be good for the City Centre .

The outdoor seating was for the food & drink festival and the giant screen has been there for months. The two aren’t related.

The fanzone was always planned for ā€œKeel Edgeā€ and has always been advertised as such.

The screen in Keel Square is coming down (if it hasn’t already) so they can begin work on the pavilion.

It's been advertised being at Keel Edge since about April. That'll have been the food festival gear.

They had trestle tables and benches out mate…looked like it would have taken them a while to put out

Didn't see any of this factual post.

Could be aye. But I just guess someone there has been desperate to say they are utilising the event space and mixed with the private operator not wanting competition from the pubs. It's led to it not being in the best spot for it.
It’s there because that area is in the future to become a hub for events and expos. It’s actually a decent space and quite big once inside. The set up is exactly the same as all the lucozade fan parks so which are basically and there to pretty much maximise space and profit. Not sure why people have an issue with it - it’s something new in the city that will drive economic value and the ability for residents in Sunderland to stay in Sunderland for something similar rather than head to Newcastle.

Cos it’s all really good. Anybody who tries to moan about the progress that’s been made in the past 5-10 years is off their heads. Cant wait to see how it’s all shaping up in the next 5 years.
I've been in military for 10 years and everytime I return home it amazes me the changes and progress from when I left. When you're away for a bit then pop back the changes are even more striking. So much better than when I lived there, I just hate that I don't know what's there anymore or where anything is when I'm back 🤣

Is it like when they move the beans in the supermarket
