What a load of shite. The fire station and auditorium are stylish as fuck, as is the entire regeneration around the empire, peacock and new culture hub. City hall is a nice looking modern building, the new eye infirmary will be impressive and the new bridge will be a fantastic link to the dozens of new developments in sheepfolds.

The council well and truly have learnt their lesson

No. But I do know there's a lot of investment and development, and seems a shame and a missed opportunity if these are it.
Sunderland has potential to be a good place tp go, I don't want to see the chance squandered.
 
Picture might be of an earlier game but the fanzone looks shit regardless. It should have been left in Keel square. I think the council have just been desperate to utilise that space. But would have been very different had we had some kind of a summer yesterday.

Could be aye. But I just guess someone there has been desperate to say they are utilising the event space and mixed with the private operator not wanting competition from the pubs. It's led to it not being in the best spot for it.

It's got Lucozade branding all over it, which I think is owned by Coca Cola. The bars are probably a franchise, but I would imagine it's more of a marketing thing than there for profit. What I would have liked to have seen was Keel square filled with picnic tables and the bars been given permission to serve takeaway pints. The council could have even told them they had to provide the security. I'm sure they would have happily done it if it meant it boosts numbers.

Considering that's taken during the DEN-SLO game I'm amazed anyone's there considering the weather and, no, they don't charge for the non-England group games. And, no, it isn't the council running it.

The problem with these fanzone places is that they attract the bellends who are more bothered about chucking beer around if England score. I reckon the bars around there would rather not have that hassle.

That's true. They were interviewing people coming out of one in Newcastle on the North East news. They all sounded like they'd never been to a football match in their lives.

Although that would be obvious, I doubt it's that straight forward. How would you feel if you owned one of the bars in Keel square and people were traipsing in and out for a piss but not spending a penny.

Aye, put it there hemmed in by office buildings on 3 sides across a busy road away from the main square of the new quadrant of town, ie the new focal point of the new developments.

Hoy up a screen that is tiny by outdoor standards.

Oh and charge people to get in, that's even before you charge extortionate prices for drinks.

An example of clownshoe tier stupidity.
