F1 2026

Its definitely a sign of "a" problem. Whether it makes a real difference remains to be seen I suppose.
It’s interesting because McLaren clearly had the best car last season so normally it would give them an edge and we would be looking at evolution rather than Revolution in terms of design. But with these new regs we really don’t know what to expect.

However, I still think all the teams will be within a few tenths of each other.

I will be surprised if there is one car head and shoulders faster or a tortoise crawling round at the back.

nah, you don't miss out on testing time unless you really have to.

They aren't missing anything though, for the behind closed doors test, while it is over 5 days, each team is limited to only using 3 of the 5 available days. Mclaren have confirmed they will be using all 3 days of this test.

I will be surprised if it there isn't one team that nails it. Just look at all the previous big regs changes. Brawn in 2010. Merc in 2014. Red Bull in 2022. A clearly faster car than everyone else. It is towards the end of a set of rules that all the cars end up being quite similar. By that point they have learnt from each other and copied the best parts. I am expecting Merc to be locking out the front row at Melbourne and Cadillac just making it into the 107% rule locking the back row. Obviously that is predictions based on rumours without seeing any testing.

Yeah, new regs mean fresh start. You never really know when they gave up with developing last year's car to work on this years. Its always both, but its still a matter of headcount per project.
You'd think Red Bull put a lot into last years car given how well it turned out by the last 5 or so races.

Didn't know that, thanks.

Rumours at that Williams might have something this year. I'd fully expect Aston to blast out of the blocks, though.

the Aston is going to go one way or the other, podiums or out in Q1. It will all depend on that Honda engine.

I wonder if the fact that McLaren were fighting the constructor's title late into the season, and the WDC right to the death, means they maybe had more resource focused on developing the 2025 car all year compared to the other teams?

I know a lot of teams (Aston, Ferrari, Williams, Alpine) essentially abandoned 2025 development way earlier than normal and have focused a lot more heavily on 2026 development. McLaren might be playing catch up a little bit.

i'm not a fan of drive to survive, but the opening couple series did unearth some great drama of which the williams clusterfuck at the barca pre-season test has to be the top of the pile... the scenes between Claire & Paddy Lowe are gerld...

Supposedly part of their drop off was they focused on 2026 because their 2025 car was so much faster in the early part of the season. Do it maybe Red Bull who unexpectedly struggle. Focusing too much on 2025 plus a new engine, it might be a disaster for them.

McLaren will have push rod suspension. Brilliant news for Norris, not so good for the rest of the grid. Number 2 is on its way

in the thread crossover i would never have predicted, the F1 movie has been nominated for the best movie award at the oscars...
