I think we need a striker me like

I keep in hearing about this but I think you will find that we very much do but I think you will also find they are very much as far from being in the form required to hit the ball straight let alone at any particular place as it’s possible to get. A good coach experienced in the role or simply playing them more and allowing them freedom might see them improve in some way to anything close to the necessary level of skill of a striker.

im tired but does this make sense?

We got 30 points from our last 30 games. This was the joint second lowest points tally during this period. A point per game gets you relegated in the championship over a season. So those saying it was relegation form are absolutely correct, statistically - if you go by the numbers.

I didn't think we'd go down at any point because of the points we had on the board already.

The performance level has definitely dropped last season, even in the earlier games when we were getting results. Mowbray was starting to find it difficult with the lack of reasonable striking issues. Great result yesterday but unless this is addressed properly, it will hurt us again.

It's just an odd place to start, as it implies we were in poor form for all 30 of those games. As I pointed out, over the first 15 we were 9th in the form table and still in 6th place at the end of it (Week 31), so not averaging only a point per game and not really much to worry about. It was the 6-game losing streak from Weeks 32-37 that did us in (missing Clarke, Roberts, Ballard and O'Nien for some of those games and the chaos of getting rid of Beale in there). If our form over those six games had just matched our form over the other 40 we would have finished in 9th with 64pts. Not saying there aren't problems to be addressed but it helps to zero in on what really caused us to finish where we did.

If is a big word in this game.

Not having champions striker options was a huge problem last season and will be a huge problem this season unless it is addressed.

You are right to point out the uninspiring appointment of Beale and a lack of leadership with Dodds. Both of them would have won more matches, if they had some strikers. Back to that 'if' word again. RDB is an unknown quantity, I just hope he gets backed so he has a chance of giving it a proper go. As for injuries, it could well happen again, we have some players that get injured frequently.

A variety of factors that aren't likely to be repeated contributed to the way we ended last season. The team is capable of a top half finish. The deficiency which will prevent us moving on, as everyone under the Sun (including the owners and Speakman) knows, is the lack of one or two consistent goalscorers beyond Clarke. As a development program, the debate is whether we take a longer-term approach and continue to try and improve the players we have recruited, securing short-term support via loans. Or, do we get impatient and overspend on a "proven" striker and hope that he performs better than similar proven strikers that we have spunked loads of cash on in the past. And we will overspend because proven goalscorers are a rare commodity and we will need to compete with a host of other teams to secure one, as our recruitment experience is demonstrating. Endless fodder for discussion in here!

People talk about goalscorers and "goalscoring" strikers. If we had someone who could lead the line and do the basics of being a striker, that would be a massive step forward on what we've had for most of the last couple of years. No reason why have failed got someone of a reasonable standard. Money is an obstacle to get a proven 20 goal a season strike though.

There is nothing wrong with spending money and buying proven players. There is a phobia on this board in spending money. It's about spending it well, having good judgement.
