Football365 used to have a feature where they'd speak to young English players who went abroad after leaving the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd etc. They had bits with lads who'd gone to Hungary, Belarus, Mexico, Cyprus, all over the place.

Most of them said they found the adjustment from what was U23s football to lower league football too much. Particularly the midfielders would say they had been taught to play a certain way then all of a sudden they're getting kicked to bits on crap pitches with the ball flying over their head most the time. Going abroad they found they could play a more technical game, for teams at the top of their domestic leagues.

Wonder what Georgey there will make of it.

Absolutely this. Does Academy football prepare players for league football? I suppose theoretically a cat 1 academy is hoping to prepare players for football at the highest level. But not convinced it’s ‘tough’ enough for league 1/2. European lower league football is more technical, less physical, slower. Agree midfield tends to be bypassed by most league 1/2!

Been to a few clubs and been a bellend on social media a few times so probably
