Ex-Academy thread

Depends how you look at it.

Greenwood ended up moving to Poland for €4m, when we got ~£500k.
Norwich trebled the fee they bought Mumba for when they sold him.
Josh Coburn went for £5m to Millwall after we released him

I reckon had the current regime been in charge we could have utilised most more and probably sold several for more than we got. But who knows.

But they were never all going to make it and given they mostly joined big clubs they've likely been stifled in some cases.
Almost all took the wrong decision, they should have stayed ,its often the mothers who push instead of looking at the big picture, stars in their eyes.

Even though we were shit at the time it was obvious they'd be more likely to get gane time here. Maybe they got financial packages elsewhere they may never have got in their careers, but in terms of being given an opportunity, even at the time, it looked the wrong move.

I thought we were happy to see Robertson go for the money because we had Tommy Watson in the same position who was considered better.
I read somewhere Robertson was unhappy that Watson was getting opportunities in the first team and he wasn't, which was why he chose to jump. Then ended up behind watson again

Remember that Wallsend delight Cotcher whose mother was slagging off Sunderland and he left 'for better things'.

Still young I guess (19) but scored one goal all last season for Villa reserves, doesn't appear to have ever even made the first team bench and didn't complete 90 mins once all season.

He will be 20 early in the next season

He lost out on a lot of football at a crucial stage when he refused to sign a contract and no one wanted to pay for the compensation. Been a disaster for the lad . Badly advised and cant help but think his parents influence is far from a positive for him .

Definitely. You wonder if the family ever look back and realise their mistakes. I doubt it

I think Hugill may have a decent chance. Has done really well at Killie and if he continues the likes of Rangers will come sniffing. But I do agree that there's not one who can say their move has worked for them. The tragedy is that, other than Greenwood, none of them were chasing a move
Hugill’s terrible mate. Had the pleasure of watching him at Carlisle last season and he was way off the required standard. Couple of failed League One loans followed by a couple of failed League Two loans doesn’t bode well for him.

There’s not a cat in hell’s chance the top clubs in Scotland will be looking at him, I’d put him on a par with ex-Sunderland striker Michael Mandron at St Mirren - not someone who’s going to compete with Chermiti and Shankland at Ibrox!

He will earn a living out of football though. I see a number of our old kids in the lower leagues and think we'll done to them as there are so many who fall by the wayside.
