Some don't even realise there is a difference between Europe and the EU.My particular favourite false narrative is that visitors to Sunderland will be treated like illegal migrants, like there's no distinction between the two.
I've never seen any evidence that Reform want to keep tourists out. Where do people get this nonsense?
They haveHays should try and put packages together for the away fans with hotels in the city or seafront.
Nee idea how the travel industry works or if that's even possible
Well said,
If I was from Europe heading to Sunderland I would be looking to stay on the seafront in Roker or Seaburn area.
Walk up Penshaw Monument and a day drip to Durham Cathedral.
There could even be a major show on at the Empire Theatre if the wife is tagging along.
But matchday in Sunderland city centre on the drink with thousands of supporters of both teams before walking across Keel Crossing Will be the highlight.
Not a single European supporter has set foot in Sunderland, yet many on here are already claiming they won't feel welcome and will have a shit time - absolutely pathetic and completely wrong.
The proof will be when all of these away fans leave and then go on to tell everyone Sunderland was the best.
I was working in Boro When the rugby world cup was on at Sid James Park. I met a big group of Kiwis who were staying there due to hotel availability. Fine when events are on an afternoon, but absolutely out of the question when the last train to Teesside after night matches leaves at about 22.00
The Europa games could present a real opportunity for Northern Rail, as well as alleviating pressure on Sunderland and Newcastle hotels by allowing away fans to book digs in Hartlepool, Seaton Carew & Teesside. However, there is absolutely zero chance of any forward planning from them. They can't even run four carriages (it's always two - massively overcrowded...) on normal matchdays. Last minute cancellations...no seats available for booking on longer trips...standing room cattle class only...They really are a shambolic disgrace of a train operator. Poor foreign visitors wouldn't have endured anything like it in their home countries.

That’s not how an overcrowded railway system works unfortunately. Grand Central only exists b3cause Phil Thingy (ex Bolton chairman in BSAs era) took a punt on the most unappetising routes in the UK after he’d had one too many at an industry do,Hopefully the council get on the tourist bandwagon and start advertising the place so visitors know about all this stuff
You'd think grand Central would be wanting to put a late night train on to London after the games ..and service coming up from kings cross at dinnertime

Sounds familiar. I only know cos we caught a few of their last trains on Friday night for Saturday games and there were two Phil’s in our crowd who’d raise a toast to the Bolton feller. I’m sure @HellsBells knows as she was knee deep in the London Branch at the time.Gartside ?

There's a Grand Central train leaves KX at 1257.
Can imagine the Blandford would see a huge upturn in fortunes
Surely it must be a piece of piss mate. Just like hiring a coach with a driver. That’s not how an overcrowded railway system works unfortunately. Another note , the new Bridge has certainly put some money into the pubs in the town .Been absolutely brilliant drinking over there and walking over , wait till the Foreign Ultras do it .
