It’s utter bollocks mind
Grey Nicholls provided the bat said it was fine
It is mind-boggling but that's because we aren't party to the whole facts regarding the pitch preparation. Presumably the dangerous condition of the surface was due to factors beyond the remit of the groundstaff in the view of pitch inspector(s).Baffles me that a bat being too big gets a points deduction, but a pitch being completely unsafe and resulting in two injuries gets absolutely nothing. Mind-boggling
So counties who produce sub standard pitches where there is a result get punished but Gloucs have been let off after an abandonment on day 1. The umpires must have concluded that it was through no fault of Gloucestershire’s own. In terms of points, I imagine it’s a draw and Northants have been unlucky
Apparently they’ve been a bit more lenient with the fact that it’s a hybrid pitch, and the FTECB see it more as a trialIn many ways I feel FTECB have been let off too, the fact that neither county has any interest as far as promotion is concerned means that there is no added controversy (on top of the controversy that already exists).
Obviously there’s prize money, but if Gloucestershire had been playing a county such as Middlesex, Sussex or Yorkshire and those teams were denied points that could assist promotion there would’ve been far more backlash I suspect.
