As a lad similar age to ELF i’m not saying i’d do it but I get it, lad’s had a bit of a shit youth with his dad being in and out of prison, and then killing himself, shocker when he looked for escapism in comics, I used to do the same, read the spiderman comics as part of my pay when I was a paperlad, you imagine yourself as the hero to pull yourself out the shit, I imagine ELF did something similar, he just kept a hold of it as a hobby
