England World Cup squad news

Had Madueke got many pre assists or whatever the stupid name for them is? Also do you honestly see us playing a fast winger and crossing the ball if we are a goal down? It’ll be 473 passes in the middle and hoping we can get it to Kane. I can’t remember much of the Japan game or the previous ones so I could be totally wrong but did we turn to fast wingers then and if so did they deliver much into the box?

Hopefully we don’t even need to touch the 8/10 players that are on the fringe but it just seems mental to take players like Henderson and Burn who everyone knows are there for the vibes but leave out Maguire and Palmer who if we are expecting crosses could get his massive head on one or palmer can just change a game in a second.
Burn is f***ing honking but he’s there because he’s a left footed centre half. Henderson will only see the light of day to see out a close game. He’ll do that limited role better than all alternatives I think. Options for eventualities is all most of these lads are. With Madueke it boils down to him or Bowen. And at least I’ve got a vague memory of Madueke having a half decent turn out for England. Never seen Bowen impact things at that level. We could definitely do with a better alternative for sure, but all the decent prospects are a few years away. Saka will play all the meaningful minutes anyway.

Burn is probably happier to sit on the bench than Maguire.

Maguire has made a bit of a tit of himself in the past 24 hours making statements etc, he may have been a disruptive influence in the squad if he wasn't playing.
I don’t think he’s made a toy of himself tbh, Tuchel has a contract till 28 so if he isn’t picked now he won’t be picked again so I’d rather he speak his mind than go I just want the best for England and hope we win. People would then just say that’s bs tell us what you really think.

Picking somebody because they are happy to be in the bench or not even in the squad shouldn’t be a thing tbh, hire some clowns and magicians if you want to get a good vibe in the camp if want players disappoint muted they aren’t picked not happy.

I honestly don’t get the burn, Toney and Henderson selections, all the rest can be explained but those 3 people are scraping the barrel for excuses. I hope Tuchel wins us the World Cup and it’s from a burn cross and Toney smashes it in but from my sofa I can’t understand those 3, much better options.

Do any other countries take players who are not as good as ones in form just because they are left or right footed though? Like if Burn was injured would Tuchel pick a championship player just because he was left footed? To me it’s a bottom of the barrel excuse to justify it as on form and skill he should be nowhere near that squad.

I’d not have Bowen or Madueke, I’d rather have Palmer. We won’t play with wingers in a 442 formation, we won’t be sticking over 15 crosses so if saka isn’t playing I’d want Palmer who can just do something magic.

Henderson is there to bring vibes, he could have done the Jill Scott role of just going but not in the squad, again I hope I’m proven wrong but I don’t see him doing anything in the World Cup especially not something Wharton could have done apart from bring the vibes.

That's a good squad in all reality.

The defense looks weak, but i'm not sure the inclusion of TAA, Shaw or Maguire would change my mind.

I love Hendo, but not sure he should be there, but I get that a team needs experienced leaders.

I know he's had a poor season, but Palmer has proven he's a big game player (scored in the final of the Euros and WCC), and should be there. I don't see many on that list that has the "keys" or that bit of magic to get us out of a hole.
TAA is world class when going forward. But defensively he’s poor, it’s why he was never a mainstay in Southgate’s squad and we all know how bad it went when he was experimented at defensive midfielder.

I think Maguire and Hall should be there in place of Stones who hasn’t played a full 90 in god knows how long and Djed Spence who is hardly a world beater in a poor Spurs side.

Wharton over Hendo.

MGW > Palmer > Bowen > Madueke for that backup RW spot.

I'm genuinely quite encouraged reading Tuchel's quotes on BBC Sport.

Essentially, every player in there is there for a reason. Djed Spence, while underwhelming for Spurs, he says is the quickest player in the squad, Toney is a penalty specialist, Henderson is part of the leadership group etc etc. They all have a purpose as part of a team/squad.

Leicester won the Premier League with Danny Simpson, Danny Drinkwater, Marc Albrighton, Robert Huth etc. All about the team dynamic imo.

A lot of the players most people are concerned about were appalling at the Euros - I have no idea how we made the final. Foden has barely ever had a good game for England etc.

Personally I would've taken Gibbs White and Palmer as magicians off the bench, but Tuchel is no mug. Let's wait and see.

That still makes little sense, djed Spence has been injured, not particularly good in a team really struggling and not long ago wanted shot of him, but hes in because he happens to be fastest? Surely they need to be up to standard first of all not just fast

I think that’s the problem though, the squad looks okay, but it could look so much better. Some players form has not been great, but they would likely be a better option off the bench than some of the players he has included.

Bringing spence and/or Livramento whilst leaving out TAA,
Bringing Burn and/or Stones whilst leaving out Maguire (I like stones, but he’s barely kicked a ball all year)
Bringing Madueke, Toney, Henderson, but then leaving out players like Palmer, and Gibbs White.

I agree with leaving Foden out, he hasn’t been good enough for a long time now. But it feels like he’s trying to send a message to some other players like Palmer by excluding them from the squad all together when in reality he should just not be picked as the first choice.

Goalkeepers:
Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace) ✅
Jordan Pickford (Everton) ✅
James Trafford (Manchester City) ✅

Defenders:
Dan Burn (Newcastle United) ✅ ❌ Lucky but maybe useful for set plays
Marc Guéhi (Manchester City) ✅
Reece James (Chelsea) ✅
Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) ✅
Tino Livramento (Newcastle United) ❌ Injured
Nico O'Reilly (Manchester City) ✅
Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen) ✅
Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur) ❌ Not international quality and poor attitude. Should be replaced by Shaw or Hall
John Stones (Manchester City) ❌ Only played handful of minutes. Should be replaced by Maguire

Midfielders:
Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest)✅
Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) ✅
Eberechi Eze (Arsenal) ✅
Jordan Henderson (Brentford) ✅❌ would have preferred to have seen Wharton, Garner or Gibbs-White
Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United) ✅❌would have preferred to have seen Wharton, Garner or Gibbs-White
Declan Rice (Arsenal) ✅
Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa) ✅

Forwards:
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United) ✅
Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) ✅
Noni Madueke (Arsenal) ❌ Dont rate him at all. All fart and no shite. Bowen instead
Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, loan from Manchester United) ✅
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), ✅
Ivan Toney (Al-Ahli) ❌Would have preferred to see Calvert-Lewin
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) ✅

Really good summary. I can see why foden or Palmer havent been picked....but don't understand why both have been left out. Gibbs white should be in definitely. And Dan f***ing burn should be nowhere near. He's atrocious. Maguire is streets ahead of him and has also had a really good season, burns looked shot to bits.

We won’t be playing 4-4-2 and whipping crosses in, but we absolutely will be playing with a load of width. We don’t really want Palmer drifting inside ideally. Tuchel just said it in the conference. He doesn’t want players out of position (although that’s an argument against his choices of left back cover tbf). That means wingers for winger roles. With Burn I’d imagine the left foot only really becomes important if he decides he needs a 3 at any point. In that case you really need that left foot. He could have got the same effect by taking Shaw IMO, but he’s not used Shaw that much, while Burn has been with him every squad. Defo wouldn’t be my choice I just admit.

The only baffling decision for me is no Hall, and having Burn in there over Maguire is odd.

Everything else you can probably justify.
You can easy enough, personally i don't think much is wrong with it, and Tuchel would have got shot at by the talking heads youtubers etc and the media whatever he picked in truth there's a lot people who have been waiting since he got the job to kick off, because he's German, or like with Southgate, they think they would do the job better.

This is the most disinterested I've ever been for a world cup, and now I've just seen TT's selections, it's not made me feel any different, maybe even a bit worse tbh!

I'm not going to go over the selections as I think we're pretty much all in agreement. To leave the goal threat of MGW out and ATA's ball delivery is rather baffling, and I'm worried that we'll struggle to create. There's some players there who've not seen much game time too, which does beg the question on why they have been picked.

Hopefully, I can get a bit more enthusiastic about the World Cup in the next few weeks because I really couldn't give a toss about it at present.
Who is ATA?
I can’t work it out
Agree completely that MGW should be there
