The thing that strikes me with Hameed is that he's not really in control of his gears yet. He's a talented young batsman and he can score quickly - he isn't a Sibley, who simply doesn't have the shots. But he can't yet control when that happens yet. Will come, but for today I'd rather he blocked like this than gave it away like he almost did.

i thought he struggled there personally

not an issue as I’m not fussed but I don’t think it was overly deliberate I don’t think he knew how to score runs

Yeah he can get bogged down, did it last game as well.

Down to Root now though, if he’s batting at the end I think we’ll have got close

Same pundits saying they should go for it would then criticise them for playing the shots if they got out. Easiest job in the world.
 
I don’t think that’s a bad session at all to be honest. It’s day 5, they are going to take the odd wicket, we basically made 2 mistakes in 2 hours (run out and the Hameed drop). Anyone thinking we would come out today and comfortably knock it off are in dreamland. Get to tea still with a sniff and 6 or 7 wickets left, then you can really have a go with the likes of bairstow and moeen.

My thoughts in a nutshell, preserve wickets first and foremost. Yes the pitch isn’t doing much but that’s looking likely be the case after tea too. It’d have been no use going gung ho now and being 80 or so off the target at tea with the tail in.

The problem with that is Trott,Tres,Colly coaching as I think is Bell.

Strauss was head honcho, cook still playing.

Pietersen,Swann,Vaughan are bellends. Flintoff and Harrison aren't great and have media roles elsewhere.

So that leaves someone like Prior who I don't think would necessarily be great.

Perhaps for the reasons you say is why Karthik was enjoyable for many.
