England vs India (fourth test) The Oval

He just gets out every other innings for 0 or single figures

You dont need your openers scoring 100 after 100, you just need them not to get out immediately

He will never not to do that due to his technical flaws

They just need to get to 300 and we are laughing

The problem is without Root can we do it, not convinced.

not for livinstone though, no merit on him being in the side like.
Yeah I’d stick with Buttler when available. This 4,5,6,7 when available
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Buttler

I don’t thing Livingstone is a terrible shout though, his first class record is alright. As I said earlier players like him and Vince should be asking to bat at 3 for their counties in the last few championship games. A big 100 at 3 and they’ll have a chance of making Aus tour

What other options have we batting wise? Alex Davies perhaps or Jake Libby. Do we recall Alex Lees or Vince? Perhaps Ballance can make a comeback.

…..None of these fill me with great hope I’m afraid

that’s clearly the issue and I don’t think anyone is pretending otherwise there’s some secret player ready to come in

the problem for me is simple, Burns, due to his technique, gets our far to often in single figures, it’s a major issue for an opener. Once he gets past that he does ok but he will never be able to constantly

I would forget about numbers and look for 2 lads who technique is repeatable and can keep out balls early. Sibley could do that to be fair but just couldn’t score runs

I’d honestly look at people like At Vince. There’s no way he’d get as many ducks as Burns

Wouldn't get as high scores either

think about it

he can keep the good balls out

he wouldn’t get the low scores Burns does

that’s what we need to stop

I’m not particularly bothered if he gets High scores

Burns has like 7 ducks just this year man
Wouldn't get high scores

Vince doesn't open anymore. He bats 4/5.

Been saying it all summer when he's been suggested

Edit: not batted higher than 5 this season

Alex Davies has lost the gloves at Lancs and is moving at the end of the season, he's well off the boil.

I wonder if Livingstone's chance has been and gone. He should have been called up 4 years ago when was captain of Lancs and was the best number 3 on the county circuit. After half a season out with a broken hand he's come back lower down the order and is playing in every franchise comp.

How long are we meant to keep going with Burns?

I know the question is, who else, but he really isn't good enough at this level.

No thanks, he was out for nothing playing red ball cricket this week

Wish people would stop suggesting people after a few 6s in a T20 or 100 game

It has absolutely zero relevance to playing a test match

Of the ones we’ve tried Burns remains the best option for me. We need to accept that averaging 32 opening in England mightn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Said at the time that Denly was dropped last year that his worth might only become apparent once he was out of the team and I still don’t think we’ve seen an upgrade on him at 3. Although Malan has made a decent comeback so far.
