then surely we would excel on home turf?

we get outbatted because sides hit through the line while our lot try to survive and are naturally defensive due to the pitches they are bought up on.

its also while we are continually trying different players in the power plays to catch up with other sides

I would say it is because one day cricket is a batsmans game and pretty much every country play on flatwickets whereas we play on wickets 'which do a bit if you put it in the right spot'.

Agreed.

All short forms of the game a catered for batsmen and I dont think its a good thing (good for the marks who want to see big sixes) but it makes for drab cricket for anyone who takes the game seriously.

good point. althoigh youd expect that we should be better as conditions are alient to the rest. i think its all down to the way we go about things in this country with all sports (defensive minded).

oh aye I forgot Bell is such a wonderful one day player not the same Bell who gets to 20 then gets out every game playing a soft shot

jesus wept
He would weep at the thought of his dad creating this beautiful game only for someone to think that Luke Wright should be preferred to Ian Bell in any form of the game

Agree with that. I could partly understand it if they used Wright as a bowler but yesterday England used 6 bowlers (including Bopara) and Wright didn't turn his arm over once. Therefore, it would have made more sense to include Bell to bolster the batting which did look a bit suspect with Patel as high as 6.

I accept that Bell can be a litle bit slow for T20 but he is very much in form and should have been picked.

Ian Bell should have been picked ffs we won the world cup on the back of 20/20 specialists and Ian Bell couldn't slog his granny. We lost one game grow up ffs, the fact remains that since that world cup won we have played 2 20/20 games and the side in aus was not a proper 20/20 side.

Luke Wright is a specialist in having shit hair only

Average county number 6/7 batsman at best.

Specialist batsmen? No
Specialist T-20 batsmen? No
Batsmen who bowls? Well he bowls a bit but England bowl him rarely
Bowler? Er fuck no
Bits and pieces trusted to do nowt who happens to be a good fielder and have the ability to smack it to cow corner once in a while? Yes

We are, and always will be poor at limited overs cricket because we have a lack of batsmen able to deviate from Plan A. We seem unable to adapt to the changing situation in any particular game. 1 boundary in 8 overs in a T20 game? Woeful.

Summed up nicely.

Woakes isn't International class either.

Bresnan straight back in when he's fit.

No he won't; and then when he's plodding around the counties doing an average job then we can revisit this thread.

similar to how Bell was no good when he was too high in the order and how nobody thought Cook was that good

love revisiting these types of threads

lets be honest me and you could have taken wickets against the sorry Aussie side

Durham would beat Australia
I somehow doubt it. The likes of Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and Watson would have a field day against bowlers like Plunkett and Borthwick.

just like the Durham batsman would have a field day against Hauritz, Kreja et al

Oh and Plunkett isnt a first choice pick for Durham in the 4 day game

In time Luke Wright will prove to be a very good one day player for England and we can revisit this thread

This, a selfless player who shouldn't be judged on his raw stats. Probably wouldn't be in my final eleven at the moment but he wouldn't be far off.
