England v Pakistan Test Series

Can you imgaine England having to play 'home tests' in France

Aye but, when was that last time we had a armed millita gunning down an touring team bus?

I know its sad for Pakistan, but this kind of stuff shouldn't go on. Its a bit weird mind the Pakistani public normally hold the cricketers in such high esteem. Thats why I was so suprised when the news broke about what happened to the SL team. Im glad they are still allowed to play mind, would've been a detriment to the game. Thats why I cant believe the IPL's decision to ban all PAK players. Cant be the pinnicle if they dont include the best players from ALL countries.

Strauss
Cook
Trott
KP
Bell
Prior
Broad
Swann
Finn
Anderson
Panesar

Thats a good strong team. But you know the selecters, always playing the safe game. Be really suprised they play 5 bowlers.

How about a compromise?

Cook
Strauss
Trott
KP
Bell
Morgan
Prior
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Panesar

Wouldnt be adverse to playing 2 seamers and 2 spinners, if we were going to go down that route though i would bring Bopara in for Morgan for the option of a third seamer.

If the pitch warrants 2 spinners, we should go with 2. However, having read bits and pieces there is no chance they will move away from a 4 man attack, especially as results have gone well with that system. They either really back their bowlers or they are not very confident with the batsmen. I think its more the latter.

Hopefully the middle order have ironed out some of the problems they were having....

Interesting to see how KP goes. Read his comments about how he couldnt really give a toss about warm ups and that his lack of runs means nothing.

Big series for Morgan as well, as he is the one who will go the journey should they ever need to go with the extra bowler.

Alarm set for 5.30. Cant wait !

Mine too, can't wait for this to get under way. Feels like ages since the last test against India, the best part of 5 months with no England games (ODIs don't count) is quite a rare thing to happen.

I've also heard the Barmy Army are planning some kind of tribute to Podgy tomorrow, I hope Sky manage to pick some of that up, they often show a bit of what they're up to on tour, and it would be great if they picked up on it.

3-0 or 2-0 to england for me, Pakistans Batting doesn't look upto much

history would suggest that is fanciful at best

I expect two turgid teams aiming not to lose first on attritional wickets with an inordinate amount of time lost due to light and dust swirls with the series being decided by Ajmal ripping through us in one of the test with England losing 1-0 or scraping 1-1 series draw

As daft as that may sound, it isn't far too unrealistic

I think a 1-1 draw is on the cards, with 3 pretty turgid tests on slow pitches and lots of success for spinners.

im not into ODIs at all so its been far too long (although i have been watching the Saffer and Convicts series').

just been reading the page on their site all about podge, sounded like a real good un like.

If England can win the first test I cant see Pakistan coming back.

I cant believe the predictions on here like

England have never been to the sub continent and won series 2-0

As with the ODI in India, they are very ordinary against class spinners in Asia regardless of the format. They dont get the necessary exposure to these conditions often enough.

Pakistan are a team who are playing as a united bunch, rid of corruption in the short term (evidenced by dropping the keeper who hasnt been able to catch cold for years) and on paper boast the most skilled and varied attack in world cricket

Umar Gul has a similar bowling record to Anderson and better than Finn and Broad. If he bowled for England he would have a bowling average in the low 20s

tbf England are no 1 in the world, have the best spinner in the game (on pitches which will turn) and its at neutral venues. I think it will be very tough, much will depend upon our middle order against spin, but I think England can win the series.

I stand corrected but since Englands rise to number one they havent played the big three Asians in their own back yard. It was the obstacle Australia in their pomp struggled to overcome.

Bangladesh Away
Sri Lanka Home
India Home
Australia Away (credit due)

Three series we would be expected to win

English batsman just dont play on these types of wickets very often. Look at the ODI series in India and those who have played IPL, none of the batsman have looked very good.

True, but this will be one of the strongest squads of players we've ever taken to Asia with the best chance of winning the series for a very long time. 2-0 is certainly optimistic, but not impossible.

While I agree with you that we don't tend to play spin very well in Asia in any format of the game, the fact we're playing tests on this tour will help us face the spin better than if we were playing ODIs.

I agree, but they can only beat whats in front of them. we were going to struggle out in oz, battered them. we were going to struggle at home to india, tortured them too....

This will be easily our toughest test, but lets not forget, it will be a big test for Pakistan as well.

I dont EXPECT us to win, but i think we CAN win.

If I were Misbah, I would open the bowling with Ajmal, as neither Strauss nor Trott have a clue against quality spin

Remember Strauss against SL in w/c and Trott gets bogged down to easily

Right, I've knackered my body clock up for this one. Think it could b a banana skin series, but then again I thought India might be and they got battered out of sight.

Love Test cricket me 8-)

Might have been the way to go, as Swann will not be able to cope with bowling 50-60 overs.

At the moment England are 170-9 with the 3 pak spinners taking 8-90 from 50odd overs.

I know why we did it, but surely the selecters knew this was going to happen, and shouldv'e picked the side accordingly.

Ajmal is tearing us apart.

Following that shambles of a 1st Test, I'd like to change my prediction from 1-1 to 2-0 Pakistan. Thought we'd learn how to play spin by now
