England v Pakistan T20s

Denly has played 12 T20 internationals, in 11 innings he averages less than 10 with a strike rate under 100 and he's bowled 11 overs.

It may well be that he's come in with a few balls to go but that strike rate isn't good enough if that's the case and the bowling figures suggest Morgan doesn't trust him with the ball. He has a lot to prove internationally.

He is an opener to be fair

Aye just dont think people realise Morgan likes him, he rules the roost and gets the players he wants, its not some Ed Smith vanity thing, he has also played in leagues all round the world.

Wouldn't pick him myself, but doesnt bother me

hsve you never asked why he gets t20 deals round the world???

people obsessed with age man, who cares how old they are

Morgan wants him, get over it

agreed with this

just petty by Morgan

he needs to just say he ain’t playing while I’m captain instead of this nonsense on trust

excellent t20 player

hence why he gets IPL and t20 deals,Morgan what’s him

obviously SMB knows better than our worldcup winning Captain

He's not an international T20 cricketer, never has been, never will be.

T20I batting stats:

Denly: Av 9.6, SR: 96.97
Vince: Av 28.23, SR 123.64
Hales: Av 31.02, SR 134.42
Bopara: Av 28.44, SR 116.75

He's done well in BBL, PSL, but no better than the others I have listed. If age is no issue, get Bopara in there - he's a good bowler in this format.

Hales has got more ability to destroy attacks more than the other two imo and in T20 Strike rate as important as average, somebody who only averages 30 but scores that 30 very quick at the top of the order gets that team of to a great start in T20.

Just my opinion but Hales is a better player than the other two

Hales is a classy player in this format. That’s not the reason he isn’t playing

Mind I love the logic from earlier in the thread that Denly plays because it’s what Morgan wants and “get over it”, and then calling Morgan petty over Hales in the very next post

I agree. Just quoted these players as examples of current T20 players with a better international record than Denly. Hales is one of the best T20 batsmen in the world and continuing to exclude him after he has served his punishment is simply unacceptable.

I would love to know why he isn't playing as it reeks of double standards after BS was welcomed back into the team.

Or yeah I understand the reason he is not playing, was just disagreeing with the poster stating that Boapara and Vince as good, I know stats similar but personally think Hales better than the other two.

Yeah on the face of it totally agree, must be something more to it to keep excluding such a good player.

Bopara's average in particular will have been boosted by a number of not outs. He was never the worst player for England but I think his inclusion was tongue in cheek. I looked at Luke Wright's record, it's also a lot more favourable than Denly's but it's been a long time since anyone mentioned him. But then I thought we all know what each other think, there's no point labouring the point....

That said, team for today?
Bairstow
Banton
Malan
Morgan
Billings
Denly
Ali
Willey
Curran
Jordan
Rashid

I think that's the team they'll go for, personally I'd play Livingstone over Denly. I guess they'll rotate Gregory and Mahmood in over the 3 games.

Looking forward to seeing Banton at the top of the order, every time watched him for Somerset in shorter format looks very talented young boy,

Gregory can be expensive but really useful lower order bat.

Forecast has it lingering until around 7 now and OT is a notoriously slow drying ground at the best of times. Can’t see them getting a game on tbh

All opinions mate, I personally just cannot see the forward planning in picking denly. If he was a brilliant player fair enough but there is zero upside to picking a player of his age with so many holes in his game.
