that for me was worse than getting out...a blind man could see it was plumb
The ball is doing absolutely nowt, yet we've scored 4 runs off 5 overs
There is simply no way a top 3 of Cook, Bell and Trott should be anywhere near an international ODI team.
We have gone back to the dark days of the 2007 World Cup when we were going with Joyce, Vaughan and Strauss.
Not good, absolutely crying out for KP back but why we have gone for this combination in his absence baffles me, we should have looked for someone positive to replace him at the top of the order, such as Steven Davies, Josh Cobb or even Michael Carberry. Surely you would want someone to fill Pietersen's role and bat with a high strike rate so Cook and Trott can play around them?
And how Bopara is back I don't know, what does James Taylor have to do to get a game? he must average mid 40's in domestic one day cricket.
Bell would be better at 4 imo against the spinners in the middle overs with Morgan hitting big at the end.
Trott is just Trott, he will always be part of the ODI team because he scores runs (usually).
Cook is the captain so has to play.
I'd like to see Cook open with KP personally. Trott at 3, Bell 4, Morgan 5, Prior 6.
England are playing 1970's One-Day cricket, solid at the top, tick over and don't lose wickets so they can have a hit later.
The game has moved on.
You need power to clear the inner field at the top of the order, bats to tick over in the middle, and hitters at the end. This Champions Trophy is going to be embarrassing.
