England v Ireland, One Off Test

Thought England woud skittle them for 60-70 in these conditions. That was more brutal than I thought.
Still think Ireland batted pretty stupidly, though. Went at the ball hard like England's first innings.

Broad blew the chance of getting on the board again, there.
5 balls to Rankin who couldn't put a bat on it and he couldn't hit the stumps once. Kicking himself a little I bet.

Woakes will definitely play in the 2nd Ashes test. Would you play him at Edgbaston or go for Archer. Think I would go for Archer. Woakes will be even more pumped at Lords that he'd been left out of his home test match.

Does Root deserve MOM for tactical master stroke of sending in leach at #1? If he had come in at 11 again he would have run out of partners and scored 10 runs max, and an innings victory for Ireland would have been a possibility

There are no better players. We're just shuffling the same pack over and over again expecting different results.

We need a total change in mindset and strategy in test cricket, coaches who understand this format.

There are no better players spot on, that’s why the current better players in the team need to take more responsibility

Wow you're clever.

That was clearly posted before they got bowled out for 38. Still, dismissing England for 85 was an achievement they can be proud of

Said we would win if we got 180 on a couple of posts

Turns out they got no where near

Enjoyed their day in the sun good luck to them better game that I thought

just noticed the manager of the Ireland mens senior team is a sunderland fan

But Edgebaston is his home ground, that might count for something in the selectors minds.

After this result i am looking forward to the ashes now, after all its the main event

Any reason we can’t go for both? Woakes 8, archer 9, broad 10, jimmy 11 is still a long batting lineup. Then go Bairstow 3 Root 4 stokes 5 Butler 6 Ali 7 and whichever openers you fancy. Our best batting options are our all rounders anyway so may as well load up on them and the extra bowling option. Find it hard to believe that Woakes at 8, for instance, would score less over the series than Denly at 3 of Burns opening, and gives us a bowling attack to cover all bases and a strong batting lineup. Think having Ali 8 Woakes 9 is overkill on the batting side, Woakes is better than a 9

Sorry folks but Burns is not good enough. This is a massive problem we need the openers to fire.

I say we go with a man in form regardless of international experience I therefore say my team is as follows

Roy
Bairstow I know this is test cricket but Roy and JB work well
Northeast
Root
Buttler
Stokes
Ali (useful offie)
Woakes
Archer
Broad
Anderson

Perhaps swap Ali for Leach if it’s a turning pitch.

My message would be make sure you’re ready for the very first morning being intense. They’ll be nervous as well, give them nothing and be aggressive.

I can’t wait for Jofra to knock Warner’s block off.

Given how Leach has done, in the last day or so, would it not be wiser to start him further up the order as root insists on being a lower down the order batsmen, when it comes to opening batsmen how we all now miss the days of Trott and Cook, with Pietersen and Bell coming in if needed.

Most recognised 180 batting last was going to be tough ask for a team like Ireland.

If they'd come within 50 runs rather than folding like an under 11 side that would have been a moral victory for them.

Woakes at his home ground, no question

Not sure why Ireland have Test status.

Absolute demolition from England. Still, you can only beat what's in front of you.
