And it’s easy if it’s close to fall into the trap of not knowing whether to stick or twist. I’m not saying Stokes made the wrong decision by any means. But I think it reinforces what I said at the time, that it’s a bit more nuanced these days then it might have been when that bloke from the 19th century people like to quote was playing. Particularly with this England team, when we know they are so much better at chasing a target than setting a target.

Do you think England could bazball 300 plus on a fifth day on this pitch ?

It was correct to bat first on this

Think I have told this story before but once played against Richardson when he was pro for Burnmoor.

First over he was caught behind and walked, however umpire called a late no ball, with him walking our keeper throw the ball to short leg who ran him out, square leg umpire gave him out.

Our captain thought it was bad craic so ‘ called him back’

Two hours later he was on 156no :D

No, but I think the one way to win on this sort of pitch is to get the best of the conditions by batting second and get a big enough first innings lead. England were on top at the end of the first innings because India didn’t. They’ve got themselves behind in the game by what they did today.
