England v India 5th Test, The Oval 31st July- 4th August

Carse, Archer have to drop out for Atkinson.
Dawson probably stays in the team.
Maybe call up Ahmed to the squad.

It's the oval so it might be worth two spinners, especially if Stokes can't bowl.

Wood maybe back.

Oval wickets have been very seam friendly for years (barring that disgrace against you lot)

Pretty sure it was confirmed the last Test that hes out for the Series, targeting the ODIs against Saffers

God no, as much as i wanna beat India, nothing is worth sitting through five days of that dross
It would be ridiculous bringing Wood back for the 5th test having never bowled a competitive ball this season. Ease him back with a few Metro Cup games where he can gradually build up his pace then a few ODI's v SAffers. I take it be hasn't been signed up for the Folly.

Really all three of the quick bowlers shouldn’t be playing the next test.

Carse looks completely done having played all four tests, Archer you can’t risk another game so soon after this one and Woakes has been very poor with both bat and ball.

I think they’ll keep with Woakes and bring Tongue and Atkinson back with the rest staying the same.

Makes sense. TBH I wouldn’t mind seeing Sam Cook come in for Woakes. Be harsh for him to only get 1 Test on a flat deck against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge.

Ridiculous that the Tests have to be squeezed together so much to be all done by the first week in August to allow room for a format no-one else plays. Players, and bowlers in particular, are knackered and need a longer break between games. Just look at the reduced speeds of Bumrah and Archer in the last game. People paying high prices to watch Test cricket should not be watching players operating well below what they can do.

Ben Stokes (Durham) – Captain
Jofra Archer (Sussex)
Gus Atkinson (Surrey)
Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire)
Harry Brook (Yorkshire)
Brydon Carse (Durham)
Zak Crawley (Kent)
Liam Dawson (Hampshire)
Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire)
Jamie Overton (Surrey)
Ollie Pope (Surrey)
Joe Root (Yorkshire)
Jamie Smith (Surrey)
Josh Tongue (Nottinghamshire)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

Woakes has been unlucky at times and there’s basically no one who is proven to be better than him, so he stays. Dawson was disappointing in the Fourth Test but he should be given another chance.
The major questions surround Archer. It’s probably not worth risking him further on what is likely to be a flat wicket at the Oval.
None of the pace bowling options look greatly inspiring but for the last Test I would go with Atkinson, Woakes and Cook, alongside Stokes.
