England v India (2nd test) Lords

Watch when things don't go his way he's a cry baby. I remember when he trapped a ball once and claimed a catch. Clearly hit the ground. He whined on like a child. Can you imagine following Captain Root into battle? I can't.

It's all well and good pointing out the faults in Root's captaincy (and I agree that there are some) - but (i) who else could do it; and (ii) how much of this kind of debacle is captaincy-related, and how much is down to the fact that England have so many sub-standard players?

England probably have about three or four players, of those not currently long-term injured, who are guaranteed to get in to a best XI. Of that handful, Root is the only real option to be captain.

We’re going to end up batting to save the test at this rate. What a grim last hour or so since the Pant wicket.

The discussion RE the run chase here is interesting. A lot being said about the lack of intent against NZ after their declaration but very little said about lack of ability to actually chase. The intent criticism is valid but are Burns and Sibley capable of taking the game to the opposition?

Bowling far too short this morning. They’ve let their chat at Bumrah take over from actually trying to win this game.
They won’t go for this total now. Not a chance. India win or draw only outcomes now.

It's odd in cricket, good personal performance often outweighs inadequacies in captaincy. I can't suggest any solution sadly.

This morning it should have been no more complicated that telling his bowlers to bowl on or around off stump. Instead no-one has a clue.

we shouldn’t chase this like

they need to bat with a clear mind and forget this session

should get no criticism for doing that

In short, no

Anderson and Root need to wind their necks in. They're being humiliated by two of the world's most limited tail enders.

Time for some humility.
