England v India (2nd test) Lords

Did you need a negative test or out for entry? I’m just about to shell out on tickets for today

spot on
Yeah good article that. Good journo Tim Wigmore generally like his stuff.
Spot on as you say. 12 different Test roles in 3 years is insane like. I’ve long thought JB could bat 5 at Test level, easily good enough if he sorted his technical issues out, which he did for the white ball so no reason at all why he couldn’t for the red ball. As the article says. All about desire and if he wanted to, which it seems he does. Up to him now to score the runs which cement his place but looks likes he’s on the way to doing so. As has been said he’s clearly our second best batsman as it stands. Where does he bat when Stokes returns will be interesting to see. Really pleased he’s back and doing well though, great to see.

That was bang out of order what they did to Jimmy

players obviously wound up for England

hope Wood gets into their tail

they were genuinely trying to injure him and get him out of the game
What I like about Bairstow is he looks like he has that steely determination to do will.

Personally taking everything into account and all batsman available would always be in my side at the moment

aye he looks in a good place mentally

it was poor getting out yesterday he was in nand it was a nothing ball

they’ll argue that his tempo helps the team and helps root. They bat really well together like

we moved around bairstow Ali etc to try fix top order problems

shelve that. They are our middle order

if Pope wants to get in side he needs to bat top 3

he’s had the perfect batting spot for a year and has scored no runs. I’d risk him at 3 next test
Massive new ball spell this

cloudy

it’s a huge moment in the series

we need Jimmy and Robinson bang on it

I love wood but I really wish it wasn’t him and Curran backing them up

if it was woakes and broad we’d hammer them

absolutely no doubt in my mind

Has Ollie Pope ever batted at three for Surrey? He is a middle order batsman.

Well he is, but guess the question the selectors have to ask themselves is even out of position would he be a better option than those that normally bat 3?

Does something have give if you have all better middle order batsman than top 3?

Can’t see Root going back to 3, can’t see Bairstow 3 and the current top 3 look poor.

So would Pope be a worse option than others tried there?

It is certainly a option worth considering

He averages 30 batting at 6. He’s never a 3
