Despite what many armchair fans would say it was an excellent declaration by Strauss. Why on earth should we give India the slightest sniff of victory when we have dominated all match? If they were chasing 400 or so they would have had a chance - Tendulkar would have been far more positive in how he played and the pitch was as flat as they come.

Take a bow, Jimmy, Broad, Pieterson, Prior. Class efforts all round, bar a couple of dodgy lbw shouts and dropped catches.

Thank God someone with some sense. This isn't a county match where you can afford to take those sorts of risks; especially in the first match of the series against that batting line up, and on that pitch.

A declaration with a lead of only 350-400 would have been nothing short of foolish.

Of course it was, and the main protaganist was calling for Durham to do exactly the same a few weeks ago, I wouldn't bother with it.

Just imagine if they had the extra time last night, they could have been looking at 200 to win today, and that would have been that.

It was an excellent performance all round.
