England v India - 1st Test, Lords

Possibly the best innings I've seen from Pietersen, very complete, just goes to show what he's capable of with a bit of focus.

Harbhajan has looked very poor, always considered him a tad overrated and he's bowled like a novice today.

I love watching Swann bat when he's got his eye in. He's not technically the best, but it's always entertaining.

Me too, a real old-fashioned cavalier approach to batting.

I'm not sure why he doesn't bat above Broad tbh, Broad is technically better, but if Swann gets going he can easily knock up a quick 50 or 60 from number 9 so you would think he may offer more at 8.

Lord's is a spinner graveyard etc etc and all that shite which may well be true, but he's also bowled absolute garbage.

Agreed, where as Broad has a better defense and can stick around longer (not today, obviously) which is normally what is needed from tail enders.

And Swann was always going to get out once we started praising him :lol:

Not an easy place for spinners but going for 150 off 35 overs with his experience isn't really acceptable, and I very much doubt you will see Swann struggle this much, even if we have just cursed his batting

He was going at 7 an over in his last spell. He was hauled out of the attack and Raina gets a wicket first over

Looks like England are going for KP's 200.

I'd of declared at 450.

Pietersen is more than capable of getting this last 15 runs in about 5/6 balls though so it might not be long until the declaration comes.

For all his technical soundness, Broad is very hit and miss for me, I don't think his batting has really come on either in the last couple of years. If you took away that hundred he scored against Pakistan last summer his average would be around 22, which is no great shakes for a number 8.

Everything is going for England now

That hundred was very much an exception rather than the norm, he seems to get out cheaply very often. And people seem to think he is capable of batting at 7.

And there is 10 of them in 2 balls.

If England were to go with 5 bowlers, I'd be tempted to bat Bresnan at 7, he's got a very sound technique and has scored hundreds for Yorkshire, unless of course they go with 2 spinners in the sub-continent in which case I think Patel might be worth considering. On the other hand, I'm not sure Bresnan is an ODI number 7 as he's got quite a classical technique and takes a while to get himself in, the problem England have there though is that Broad and Swann's ODI batting has been poor.
