England Lions Tour Squad

A 14-strong squad has been selected for the England Lions tour of Australia starting in November.

The touring party will depart on the 4 November along with the Test specialists selected in the Ashes squad.

Selection is subject to passing Lions minimum fitness standards, which will be administered over the coming weeks.

Lions squad to tour Australia:

Tom Abell (Somerset)
Josh Bohannon (Lancashire)
James Bracey (Gloucestershire)
Brydon Carse (Durham)
Mason Crane (Hampshire)
Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire)
Ben Foakes (Surrey)
Alex Lees (Durham)
Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire)
Liam Norwell (Warwickshire)
Matt Parkinson (Lancashire)
Dom Sibley (Warwickshire)
Jamie Smith (Surrey)
Rob Yates (Warwickshire)

The squad includes four players, James Bracey, Mason Crane, Ben Foakes and Dom Sibley, who are capped at Test level.

Lancashire batter Josh Bohannon, Surrey wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and the Warwickshire pair of seamer Liam Norwell and opening batter Rob Yates are new to the Lions set-up.

The rest of the squad have had Lions experience in the past. Durham opener Alex Lees returns to the Lions for the first time in six years. The 28-year-old left-hander has been in excellent form in the LV= Insurance County Championship and will be looking to make an impression on this tour.

The Lions will be in camp alongside the England Ashes squad and will play two intra-squad matches (1 x 3-day and 1 x 4-day matches) in Queensland. They will also take on Australia A in a four-day match. Dates and venues are still to be confirmed. The party will return home on 16 December.

Coaching appointments will be announced in due course.

No Livingstone is strange unless he’s playing BBL.
Thought Libby or Haines might go also given the runs they scored but can’t say I’ve seen much of them

Sibley should be in the main squad for me

it’s not strange is it though

I’ve said myself I might have taken a punt but his red ball performances have been poor

there’s absolutely no basis for him being picked other than scoring runs on the 100

think everyone needs to calm down a bit

Wouldn't particularly disagree with that squad but just reinforces the view that there is not much talent coming through at the moment. Most of that squad are decent solid county cricketers.

I wouldn’t have selected him for the main squad but thought he’d go on a lions tour

Think he’s concentrating on his white ball game, from what I’ve seen (personally) in the red ball game he has been average and is a much better talent suited to the white ball I would have taken him in the lions squad though

There the 3 that stand out as missing,
Yates, sibley, lees, mahmood, carse, Parkinson, foakes all 1 outstanding match away from the main squad imo given the A team are playing the test team as a warm up

True but some, as yet unnamed, are staying on as cover for the test squad in event of injury or covid. Presumably Livingstone wouldn't commit to that.

its not that like, he has scored no red ball runs for years, thats why he haasn't been picked

no idea why a few 6s in the 100 would change that

Nor does an average of 11 in 7 CC innings this season enhance his chances but plenty of sources were tipping his selection.

Thats why its created such a storm though, a few high profile ex players

there is no real story here, he has done nothing to suggest he should be picked at all
