Reuters, no less, chipping in with their 5 penneth. Championing the cause of Onions.

Root shouldn't have been moved from the opening slot. Carberry although he hasn't done all that much wrong is and never has been the answer.

If Trott wasn't in the right frame of mind before the start of the tour, he shouldn't have been selected. The selectors/Flower/Cook should have been 100% and to me, it's obvious they weren't.

Swann wasn't happy with KP being reintergrated into the squad and should have been man enough to get it out in the open and not quitting halfway through a series that was already a disaster.

Bresnan wasn't fit at the start and probably shouldn't have gone, they should have had more faith in Stokes. Let's not play them in a test together again.

Broad should have been used as Johnson has been by the Aussies. He's not as quick but is certainly capable of roughing up their batsmen.

Anderson has struggled and is the only proper swing bowler on tour, why not take Onions as well who is the closest we've got to Jimmy.

I'm sceptical of Cook as a captain too. He's not crafty or clever enough to be a top class Test captain. However, the next obvious captain is Joe Root and giving him the captaincy now would be career suicide.

There is talk of them giving debuts to Borthwick, Ballance & Rankin.

Although I'm pleased for Scotty, this does sound like either mass panic or just admitting we'll lose the 5th test as well so just see how some new faces cope.

It's even been suggested that Root might be dropped. Complete madness.

It would be a complete disaster dropping Root.

easy to say with hindsight tbh.

i agree about carberry, think root should have opened and compton should have travelled as back up. then when trott left it would have been easier to stick root at 3, compton to open rather than the muddle that happened.

whilst i think they should ahve shown more faith in stokes and had him at 6 the whole time that is said with total durham biasm and doubtful anyone had any faith he would perform half as well as this, who would have been brave enough to say a cenury and a 6 for?

broad needs to sort himself out,he has hese purple platches but generally he bowls without aggression and just bowls stock balls too short to be good length but too full to be proper bouncers, just feeding batsmen runs. agree he should be used as quickfire aggression, like johnson, and have onions and anderson bowling the line and length stuff to tease batsmen into playing at balls they shouldnt.

cook's captaincy has never convincing but it has never had to tbf. as you say there is no real alternative so why not see if he can develop in that area? it is a shame that despite him being groomed for captaincy it was strauss doing it who was equally as unconvicing.
