Fans have voted for their best ever side. Not a bad one to be fair. Difficult to pick players from before 70s unless around in that time as coverage very grainy.

Boycott
Gooch
Root
Pieterson
Gower
Botham
Prior
Swann
Gough
Anderson
Willis

Difficult to leave out cook, trott, broad and Thorpe. Honourable mentions to likes of Hobbs, Hutton, Trueman, barrington, Hutton, Compton, Greig, Larwood, Sutcliffe, Laker, Barnes etc but based mine on what I’ve seen.

Aye I can't believe Cook never made it in although Boycs and Gooch are absolute legends I suppose.

Seems sad that Prior is the best we can muster up behind the stumps. I suppose the modern need to be able to bat gets him in, but would like to think being an all time greatest team you would have enough runs in the batters to pick the best gloveman.

EDIT: Sorry just noticed this is your team, not the fans XI

Personally I would take Gough, boycott and prior out of that team

I would pick, cook, harmison, Bob taylor

It’s a waste of time picking these sides, for many reasons. For one it’s impossible to compare current players to players from history and for two - current players are always given bias.

No way Root is the best number 3 in England’s Test history.

Alec Stewart was FAR better than Prior too.

Yeah probably Gower 3 and Root 5 on reflection.
Stewart’s record as keeper batsman was very ordinary. Think the whole confusion as to wether or not he should have the gloves cost us and him a lot more runs as an opening bat actually.

Decent shouts and as a glove man certainly Taylor would get nod but prior was good enough with gloves whilst being excellent with bat as well. For that he would get the nod for me.

I was toying with Jack Russell and going back further, I used to like bairstows dad

Imo Gower would be in at three over root all day long.

Also would think lamb would get in a top five, just for his performances against a peak windies battalion of quicks

Only going on my era, so apologies to anyone with a better/historic knowledge...

Strauss
Cook
Bell/Trott
KP
Root
Buttler (based on talent alone)
Flintoff
Swann
Broad
Harmison
Anderson

I’ll put myself against the Auschwitz firing wall now...
