Eng v South Africa 3rd Test

Fair assessment.

Do think a few got carried away a while back mind.

Fair enough - theres not much between a lot of the test nations which makes a lot of test series intriguing. i think the Ashes will be a cracking series next year and to be honest ive enjoyed the cricket in this series despite been well beaten. The SA/Aus series coming up will be worth a watch also.

Strange series in many ways. They were deserved winners. Their batsmen were superior to ours their bowlers superior to ours.

However the first test we were 290 for 3 on a flat deck and they were reduced to bowling wide of off stump to restrict runs. We should have easily got a total that put an SA victory out of the question but we had one really bad session through complacency IMO and got hammered.

The next two tests were closely contested.

I genuinely believe we've got the best lower order in world cricket, however our top three have faltered all series and we just can't seem to build two partnerships in a game, or sometimes even one. Trott used to be the glue that held us together. If Strauss wasn't captain, he'd have been dropped by now.

When was the last time we posted a massive total on a pitch that wasn't a flat track? I remember a few years ago we were racking up scores of 450+ and then skittling the opposition out for under 250.

Excellent series, fair play to the Saffers......

We cracked in three or four key sessions, something which we haven't done for a few years.
Their front seamers proved to be the equal of ours, but they have Kallis as a 4th.
Our bats gave themselves away too often.
Strauss' continued bad form is starting to be a worry.
Imran Tahir is shite.

I cant actually think of another test nation who has any kind of batting in their lower order tbh

Imran Tahir is shite.

this

he is one of the worst international spinners i have seen grabbing a stump at the end was odd, he didnt dererve one

i liked it when they started with the champagne spraying and he and amla went and hid behind the screen

i hadnt realised until they mentioned on the radio but apparently we've only won 3 out of 11 test matches as world number one :lol:

To be fair we're shite on the subcontinent and 3 of those tests were against SA. Not like we've lost to New Zealand or Bangladesh at home.

If Imran Tahir is shite doesnt make Swann look very good who had far worse stats

Don't let yourself get dragged into all that man. You have certainly got the moral upper hand over people on here after this series if you can be arsed with all that. Swann and Tahir weren't much good to be fair.

Who Swann? Aye he has looked pretty poor mind, id drop his plastic mag arse.

To be fair, his dad's a Geordie iirc. Not like Swann just started supporting Newcastle 15 years ago. It's like a Sunderland fan moving to the midlands and then having a kid who grows up down there but is still a Sunderland fan.

#Through gritted teeth#

Aye alright then.

Aye. Outbowled by Monty from what I saw against Pakistan and been sporadic in the home Tests. Still worth his place IMO, this England side don't panic and chop players after a couple of bad games.

Agree with most of that.

Dont get me wrong, I still like him, I just think a stint out of the side might give him a kick up the arse.

some would argue that 6 defeats in 11 tests constitutes more than a couple of bad games

spot on and Im genuinely in full agreement with you. Since India last year we have been very, very average in Test cricket; primarily in the batting department. Bowlers have done well in the majority of tests. The batting dept needs reviewing

Indeed, but I'm on about Swann in particular whose had a couple of good performances in amongst that lot.

Unfortunately, the one whose bang out of form and should be the one looked at most is Strauss. But I'd imagine he's good until next years Ashes.
