Eng v South Africa 3rd Test

It really is the hope I can't stand :-(

We could have won that but for a stupid shot from Broad and the absolutely idiotic run out by Swann. At that point it was in the bablance.

But as has been the case all match, the new ball is pretty unplayable.

Valiant effort.

Not sure why people were claiming we'd 'thrown it away' earlier; chasing down a massive target and we've done well to get as many as we have.

4 of the top 5 scored 12 runs between them and we were 45-4 this morning needing 300 and odd. It took a fantastic effort from the lower order to get us as close as we did.

Great test match and SA thoroughly deserve the series win and being recognised as world number 1. As far as England is concerned it shouldnt be a panic situation simply beaten by a really good side.

Don't think so, not in tests anyway. I reckon Prior is better than him anyway. Off the top of my head, doesn't Sangakkara score all of his runs in SL?

Sorry mate, but :lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hes scored more in hundreds than prior has all together, priors quality but isnt in the same league as this fella

Fair assessment.

Do think a few got carried away a while back mind.

Maybe, but it's easily done when we're beating the then holders of the number 1 spot 4-0. 15 minutes ago most of us on here were getting carried away with the possibility of victory this afternoon.

I think our place at number 2 in the world is a fair one, we're definitely better than Australia, on paper about level with India which makes the upcoming series all the more exciting, and better than the rest IMHO (despite the events of last winter).

Can't wait for the India series though, but what the hell are we supposed to do with no proper cricket until then?

Looking at cricinfo I was wrong about him scoring a large majority of his runs at home. The fact he doesn't keep wicket in tests any more makes it a moot point though.

The problem with playing India, I reckon, is that they never fancy coming over here and we're shit on the sub-continent. So I'd say they're home bankers.

Four/five years ago they were probably best team in the world imo, beating people away from home too, including us and Aussie. But they've gone back to being home bankers for sure.

Test cricket at it's best. Either team could have won the last two tests.

I agree and makes it all the more galling that this was only a 3 test series (sorry if SEB). Ultimately i think SA would still have won but the series was building nicely and it's over already :-(

Should have been4/5 but glad it wasnt actually as we would have lost one or two more

we shouldnt let the tail wagging detract from the fact that we simply werent good enough

broad isnt good enough to take regular wickets against top teams, swann seems to be declining and strauss's leadership and batting are woeful

well played the saffers, top quality side, as good as the australian side (minus the spinner!)

Aside from us getting pasted in the first test after day 1 I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Beaten by a better side, but ultimately fine margins decide test matches between the best teams and dropping Amla twice cost us.

Cost us over 300 runs.
