Energy Prices - are they taking the piss???

The "annual cap" you see mention in this press refers to "typical usage" for an average household so if you are a low user you will pay less than this or a high user will pay more. If you have your heating and gadgets on 24/7 thinking that you will never pay more than the cap then you are in for a shock when your bill comes.
It's mad how many people have misunderstood that the £4200 is an average households usage not a maximum bill.

@Darlo1973 Those regular power cuts in the 1970s were when a previous Tory government refused wages increases

a sort of early levelling up attempt that didn’t work as the Tories have never and will never allow that to happen

not labour but the Tories
Most of the power cuts in the 70s were as a result of miners strikes when the majority of electricity was from coal powered generators.

There is already talk of “power rationing”, whatever that entails this coming winter.

In summary, it was nothing to do with the power generation or transmission being in state control.

I'm with SO energy. Our DD is taken on the 13th (so over the weekend). The Mrs said that it showed as pending in her online banking app but has now disappeared. SO have sent her our monthly bill/statement and it appears as though this month instead of taking the DD they have deducted the amount from our credit balance? Can they do this? We were happy building up a credit ready for the winter in the hope that the DD doesn't jump up massively in October. We pay £170 per month, normally use around £100 and are £300 in credit after the £170 has come off.

Always takes a few days to show, check then they'll have taken the £170. They're desperate for everybody to be in credit.

On the statement our credit has reduced by the direct debit and usage amount so it definitely looks like they just deducted it. Wonder if it was because it went over a certain amount. She's just going to wait a week and if it's definitely not been taken she's going to make a card payment.

So we dont know what the unit rate could go to then

Our comes out on the 1st, never shows on the account till the 4th. There's customers with a lot more credit than you and they still take DDs.

I think they tend to adjust the DD if you’re in substantial credit but usually it’s quite high, money in their bank being seen as better than your bank although I think ovo were paying 5% interest on accounts in credit and had a maximum limit of 1.5k.

When did this Govt listen to anyone, in particular those who know what they are talking about.
Agreed, but as there's no one around to disagree right now all we can do is hope that more voices like Centrica and Octopus start singing the same song because it'll be deafening by the time the government un-pack their suitcases

By adopting Labours plan short term would give breathing space to get companies onboard and sort out the detail. No chance with this lot. Pigs might fly but they are way behind on this as they are on most things that matter.
