ECB Statement: Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson

Since the Ashes finished on 8 January (5 months ago), Ben Stokes has played 7 days worth of cricket. Gus Atkinson has played 8.

Well, you can’t criticise if they need to get pissed and disgrace themselves to let the hair down after that workload.

We don’t know the facts yet. But in relation to the point about going out, I’ve zero issue with it after a win (within reason). They got a load of shit about Noosa. There was nothing wrong with Noosa (Duckett made himself look like a twat but not harm done), the bigger issue was Lilac Hill.

The cricket match they played before the first test was poor, both in terms of the venue and in terms of the opposition. But the idea that it was worse preparation than the way they prepared for the third test by getting so f***ing legless they didn’t even know their way home, at least in Duckets case, is ridiculous.

One person went too far. They actually played their best cricket from Test 3 onwards.
