Early or late business

What are we anticipating?

World Cup means it’s going to be one of those summers where there is a lull for a month in terms of much transfer talk.

I notice a few high profile signings (Like Gordon) happening early and I presume there is an argument that for in demand or lesser known players if they are going to the World Cup (Like the Moroccan midfielder from Charleroi we have been linked with) that the club may want to get it done early incase they have a good tournament and their profile and price rises.

However later in the window sometimes opportunities arise that aren’t there at the start to get players that weren’t realistic earlier on.

Do you think the transfer business will be done mainly before or after the World Cup?

The biggest clubs with deepest pockets have always got their business done early doors.
Agents for the rest of players are running around trying to get best deals
Every year it’s the same .. people bleating about how we always do our business later than anyone else when we are no different to the majority of other clubs in our ‘tier’

Early I'd think, especially if they are playing in the WC. We have a scouting network that will know what players they want, irrelevant of how good their World Cup is. The last thing we will want is for them to have a great WC before we sign them and their value skyrocketing by millions.
