Dylan McGeouch

I only played competitive football for over 20 years...

I know that the team is everything and that a good balance to the team is key to having a good side. All players have strengths and weaknesses and currently we have glaring weaknesses throughout the team.

A player who accepts no responsibility to take positive actions to improve the team and plays the game within himself in his own negative, defensive bubble is of little use to the team. That is a nutshell is Dylan McGeouch.

If we had 2 in form strikers or 2 brilliantl wingers or a great in form number 10 Dylan's negative keep ball might work but we just don't.

Compare McGeouch to O'Nien last season. He was played out of position but he drove forward at every opportunity, won penalties, created chances for others and scored goals too. All from full back. That is the team player taking responsibility for the good of the team. McGeouch simply does not do that, ever.
There's always some arrogant prick who thinks they understand football and no one else does but I still haven't seen any evidence to back up how great McGeoch is, I also clogged in the lower leagues for twenty years and played alongside and against loads of players who could do what he does.

WHY ARE WE STILL DISCUSSING A PLAYER THAT WONT BE HERE AT END OF SEASON.IM SHOUTING BECAUSE VARIOUS POSTERS HAVE POINTED OUT HE TRIGGERED CONTRACT EXTENSION CLUB OFFERED NOWT .REASON BEING IF YOU REMEMBER HE FORCED CLUB TO OFFER MORE THAN THEY REALLY WANTED TO PAY INWAGES.

Shhhh keep it down, it's late and we have work tomorrow....

Who did you play for Kid? I may have crossed paths with you at some point!

Lead better played a similar role with cattermole next to him. It more than often resulted in him playing 50 yard passes into touch. If the end output is the same but its not dm that is putting it into touch, why is he the one that gets the shit?

You've said yourself there that Leadbitter often played a 50 yard ball into touch. He also got stick for slowing the game down, which i think was madness as he was actually looking up and looking for runners.

Now I appreciate there are other issues and problems, but that just pin points that one of the players mentioned took responsibility and tried to make things happen and was brave and that one isn't or rarely does that despite looking like he might have the ability.

100% this. He's looking after himself and keeping it tidy, he's not taking responsibility. I don't expect lung bursting runs, goals, assists. I do expect him to look up and play forward balls, not just turn back and let lesser talented players have to take the responsibility that he is shirking.

Feel like so many fans are looking for excuses in the players. The problem is Jack Ross. You can argue all day whether or not the players are good enough for Ross, the fact is, everyone of the players we’ve signed since the takeover, have come with league one experience or higher, some achieving great things at the level.

Really is up to the owners now, I can understand they wanna give JR time, for so many reasons, but to me he’s had so long now to pick a formation and pick players that fit into that formation. He’s seemingly signed a fullback to play centre back, he’s got midfielders playing at wing back, allowed our two best left backs to leave without replacement....etc...

Who did you play for mate

Never passed forward in his Sunderland career, we are a team which struggles to create chances so he's not the best option in midfield surprisingly😂

The new ginger Pirlo, weak as piss though
He's not fit to lace Colback boots.

My point is, if it isn't an option, it's not an option regardless of the player being Xavi, Leadbetter or McGeoch. It seems odd to me that the one person who recognises this gets called a coward for doing so.

Perhaps we should bring Liam Bridcutt back?

He played exactly the same role as McGeouch but was eventually dropped despite being a tidy, tick over type player.

While I don’t agree with everything the OP says, I’ve never seen so many people try to claim to have superior football knowledge because they rate Dylan f***ing McGeouch.

It's genuinely hilarious tbh. 'If you don't rate McGeouch you don't know anything about football!!' Said posters then start making comparisons with Makelele, Busquets and Kante.

You couldn't make it up.

I agree with you mate. I've never seen the attraction with him. Not really sure how anyone can move so slowly and get injured so much.
We will never get anywhere with him in the team.
I agree as well. It’s not the goals or assists that bother me. I don’t expect that from a sitting midfield player. It’s his inability to challenge, to drive forward at times and to do everything that little but more quickly. Just recycling the ball and being neat and tidy isn’t enough in this league
