Judging a holding midfielder on shots on target just devalues the whole argument. It’s like saying McGeady is absolutely shite he didn’t make x amount of tackles last season.
I judge him on tackles made, blocks made and passes completed, yesterday he was poor on all fronts, the amount of times he was closest to the man with the ball and did nothing to stop it was criminal yesterday!

McGeady still puts a few tackles in for the team when called upon though and to me that is the difference. It's a team game, everyone has to do their bit. OK some will do some things far better than others but nobody can literally do nothing of one aspect of the game.

Totally agree he was poor yesterday, just think judging him on shots on target is pointless.

We will agree to disagree, if he has the chances aye he should be shooting but I won’t be defining his good or bad performances based on his shots on target. The same way as I wouldn’t for someone like busquets at Barca.

He’s a defensive midfielder and pretty good one. To me it’s clear the whole team has no desire to get forward because the manager is banging on about clean sheets.
When managers are doing that they are working on team shape, when you are working on team shape you don’t move out of it as you don’t want to be the one in the wrong place.
Surely he just has to look at how a pretty average Ipswich made us play. We absolutely shit our selves because the pressed and closed down constantly. It’s league one, every player is here because they aren’t great. Their passing is usually shite, their touch probably isn’t the best so put some pressure on them. Just be ready for the hoof or the fuck up at the back. You don’t need a man with the keys if the opposition leave the door open for you like our goal yesterday.
4-3-3. High press, high line. We have the biggest squad in the league, rotate the bugger once we’ve ran the midfield into the ground.

Again, Barcelona have several world class players to accept a square pass, we don't. Messi doesn't have to tackle, McGeady does.

McGeouch doesn't make any sort of positive movement to get in a shooting position. I think I can remember him having 1 poor shot in his whole Sunderland career. Sorry, that isn't good enough.

I don't get him, personally. Yes, he's neat and tidy but, you can see he has more to give as his control of the football is very good. He just takes the easy option every time and, if that's giving it to your creative players, that's fair enough but the majority of the time, it isn't.
It's all well and good doing the defensive side but this is the third division and he should be expressing himself a lot more imo.

Every player should be looking to drive us forward and to create chances. The fact that we've had 2 shots on target from open play in 2 games is a perfect reflection of Mr negative Jack Ross and his negative midfield maestro with his 2 assists in 150 games. This jock makes Cattermole look like Messi
2 shots on target all season and very little action in pre season matches and the back end of last season leaves you scratching your head as to what Ross has to do to get sacked

Fair enough then, that’s your opinion. Personally I am more worried about his performance in other areas (which was poor yesterday than his shooting).

He played 2 games, He was arguably our best player last week, granted he didn't have a good game yesterday however neither did anyone including McGeady. Put him in a system that suits over a period of time (just the rest of our players) and judge him then..

But even if he doesn't look to shoot he must make some sort of forward movement as that pulls a player towards him and perhaps makes space for a team mate.

Playing hot square potato will contribute very little to the team as a whole.

Can we not just play Dobson in that role and someone more attack minded alongside him?

We seem to have two played for a single role in our midfield and it stifles us.

That's certainly what I'd be looking to do. Dobson has a bit of presence and pace about him which we have been sadly lacking. His passing is decent too.

I'd play Power and Leadbitter in the League Cup and if either of them had a decent game McGeouch would be out for me.
