Durham's Preperation

Anyone know what they're up to??

A lot of counties have already played friendlies in preperation to the new season but as far as Durham are concerned, we only have a game against the Uni (on the fixture list) to get up to speed. I'm slightly worried we'll be well under prepared for Somerset first game.

I appreciate they'll no doubt have been working hard in the indoor school and may even have been abroad, but of course it isn't Durham in April is it?? Granted the weather is shite anyway, but they could have played away. Some counties have played games on home soil - albeit wearing wooly hats and seven jumpers

Harmison has been working for sky. So much for him wanting to give something back to Durham.

Durham have friendlies lined up vs Worcester (what team is unknown as Worcester play Essex on the same day) & Loughboro

When are these friendlies taking place and where?

I think the Loughborough trip has been cancelled due to the weather.

Unless the weather picks up for the university match which starts a week friday they could go into the first championship match with no outdoor match practice as a team.
I think they will have to play the same eleven against the uni that they intend to play against Somerset. Normally they rest a few players and blood a couple of younger players.

Benks preparations not gone to well got a duck against Warwickshire for the M.C.C.

Unless it snows or rains it will be on. Looking forward to it.

Oh dear

Worcester game is at Kidderminster

Thanks for that.

Still seems shite, why play one day games against these teams?! Surely 3 day games would be better - seeing how they're more akin to what they'll be playing for the first few weeks of the season.

Anyone else worried we will be facing another relegation battle??! :-(

There's no point in worrying about relegation until it actually happens, last season proved that. 3 wins was enough to avoid relegation and Durham will win more that this year, despite what all the doom and gloom merchants would have us believe.

If you were a football manager and you said that you'd either be sacked or carted away in a straight jacket

Seriously though, I just thought perhaps we could have a sensible discussion on the likelihood of Durham's fortunes this season.

I expect we will win more than three games, but our lack of movement in bringing players in, twinned with the lack of an overseas player worries me. I think I'd be right in saying that if the current squad is to win the Championship it will be a monumental effort and perhaps an overachievement. Unless of course our new youngsters prove to be absolute world class. Oh and Geoff Cook finally fucks Gordon Muchall off

It'll be interesting too see what sort of contract Muchall got last season. He may not have one for the CC given his shocking performances in it.

Frankly I havent got the foggiest how we will do although I'd feel much better if we had say Rudolph around.

Too many home grown or inexperienced lads for my liking but I guess at some point you have to give them a chance.

I'm hoping that the County will spare no effort on the youth side of things now that we havent got a pot to piss in.

The team that played under Colly for the second half of last season proved themselves to be the best in the division over the last nine games. You don't always get what you expect from cricket, look at the number of times the previous seasons champions have struggled or been relegated next time out. We've got what we've got and all the worrying or whinging from supporters isn't going to change that, we need to get behind the lads we have, not moan about the ones we haven't got.

I think we'll have a good season. I was very impressed with the captaincy of Collingwood and I strongly believe he'll win something as captain at Durham. Looking forward to the start of the season, the financial issues are obvious to anyone with half a brain cell, we just have get on with it and get behind the club

This is the smallest squad Durham have had for a number of years, only 19 players on full contracts (and thats including Harmison} and the numbers being made up of youngsters on summer contracts. I think if we pick up one or two injuries to key players we could really struggle especially in the batting. If Colly and Benks are going to bat at 5 and 6 again we are going to have a light weight top 4 in terms of runs they have actually scored in championship cricket. Although i do fancy Stokes to go well with bat and ball this season.

was going to say can you tell me another 4, 5, 6, and 8 you would rather have in county cricket than stokes, Benks, Colly, Mustard and Scotty in terms of batting ability, because least we not forget they will be available all season which is a huge fillip.

Stokes wont have any England commitments for the forseeable

Yes they do look good on paper but in actual county championship matches for Durham Colly Mustard and stokes averages are all in the 30s and Borthwick in the 20s.
I would not mind if Mustard was given more responsibility to bat higher up the order than no7 he is good enough but they appear to like him batting with the tail.

Mustard needs to have a better season in the LVCC, every faith that he will do.

Averages in the 30s when spending half your time on bowler friendly surfaces in divison one isnt a disaster
