Durham's one day cup campaign

The one day cup feels like it is starting to establish itself as a popular tournament especially with plenty of games being played at club grounds around the country where the attendances are higher than at the county grounds and creating a kind of festival atmosphere.

Love this competition. Had some canny away days watching Durham at some cracking grounds and out grounds.

Yeah its a pity Durham have basically neglected the club grounds in the north east over the past 2 decades to such an extent that they can't even get clubs to host a 2nd XI match. They may have a few issues if they where to get a franchise team allocated to the Riverside.
I know its definitely an issue at Somerset who don't play any first team cricket away from Taunton and they think they are next on the list for a franchise because of the crowds they get.

I've enjoyed keeping tabs on it too, sone good performancesby some younguns. Problem is the majority of coverage atm especially at the bbc are 100 heavy. I can't wait for it to sod off round the world in a bcci franchise circle jerk. Trying to cash in on the short term cricket fix for the few. Rather than the long term development of the game around the world for the many.

According to some on this forum he should be in the CC team.

Grew into a decent captain but frustrating how he made such little effort to save his playing career.
I think it's weird, inexplicable. Have his eyes gone or something? Got the yips, maybe?

Realistically we have to win our final two to stand a chance of the top 3.

Whether we are capable of 3 on the bounce is another story!

IMHO he was constantly getting squared off trying to play balls on or outside off stump to square leg.

Even if this wasn't correctable, due to physiological factors (reflexes, eyesight etc), there's no reason why he couldn't have focused on his leg spin. Some of England's greatest spinners played well into their forties.

It's like he didn't see the point because he could walk into a coaching job.

It's often forgotten how promising his bowling was when he broke on to the scene. Far better judges of spin bowling than I (Warne and Swann being two of them) felt he could go to the very top as a bowler.

I got quite annoyed at times actually because Durham would barely use him in county cricket, they clearly didn't trust his bowling.

When I used to play against him through the youth levels, it was comfortably what he was really known for. Really suprised me how he ended up the opposite really, guessing he just had more potential to improve as a batsmen. Was good to see him and raine from my sort of age group go on to play for Durham though

Looking at the remaining fixtures the current top 3 have between them stii to play the teams out of the running. So even if we win all our remaining matches I think it will need a strange run of results for us to qualify.

It really does. I’m sorry to be missing tomorrow in some ways, since I don’t live that far away. But Ā£33 is taking the piss. And my Yorkie friends tell me there is something rotten in the state of Scarborough cricket club. They can’t field a side anymore in the senior league. They are just an exercising getting Yorkshire games on the cheap. A cricket club is first and foremost about participation. So I don’t want to support that.

Call me old-fashioned, but I’m not interested in club grounds in the North East generally, just in Durham. I don’t know what the fuck we are doing playing cup and seconds ā€œhomeā€ games at Richmond, Scarborough, Middlesbrough and South North. Agree with the sentiment if you give it that narrow definition.

Try convincingthat "first and foremost" belief to the Franchise devotees
Wholly agree with much of your belief but if we limited playing in out-grounds in the post 1974 Durham boundary there'd be very few decent venues.Whilst Scarborough is a ridiculous choice I can see logic in using the likes of Richmond, even Sedburgh, as they're taking the 1st class games to neighbourhoods normally devoid of that opportunity.
Both of the above are in pleasant settings,Sedburgh stunning.
