Durham Women

What's actually the underlying problem with the Womens team? Looks like a decent squad on paper.
Going for it on the off and losing early wickets, then can't get back into the game. Also they could have a team at 55/4 then they let them off and get 250+. They don't seem to play out the full overs aswell.

Ohh and Suzie Bates is a big miss

I'd question Hazell. The post match interview is just cliches and the interviewer doesn't actually ask questions but gives her answers in his 'questions'. Bizarre.

The whole set up seems very cozy and I don't think that's healthy. For professional athletes they seem to lack edge. I watched them in the nets during last week's game against Kent and there was a distinct lack of actual coaching. They were essentially just having a bit of a bowl and a slog. I wouldn't expect anything to change to be honest.

Maybe Lancashire will turn out to be the best again and Durham will do well against other teams. I don't buy that Durham did well in the latter part of Lancashire's innings, they played some idiotic shots.

A bit like the England Women's team

I watch Dani Gibson's video's and the amount of rubbish they eat and the amount of coffee they drink, i'm suprised they haven't been told off about it

Well and truly outplayed by a stronger outfit. Our fielding certainly wasn't great at times and didn't help themselves with a dropped catch at long on which ought to have been taken. I would also question the bowling changes, Villiers in particular was bowling a good spell hammered when brought back later. I noticed Filer only bowled 5 as well.
Ecclestone strangled them and poor shots didn't help.

I thought we looked a poor team for most of last year, but ended up more or less mid table in both competitions, so a fairly reasonable first campaign. We seem to do better away from home for some reason. Maybe this year will be similar. I agree entirely about Suzie Bates. I believe we were in negotiations in December with a view to bringing her back, but she then tore a quad and the uncertainty over recovery time ended that

the T20 world cup might see us lose a number of players in June/July. Filer (not a miss), maybe Villiers, maybe Armitage, maybe Heath, maybe Phoebe T, certainly Fraser. I know other teams will lose players as well, but squadwise we feel a little threadbare to me and less able to cope. We'll see

Pitch 4

Hollie Armitage, Katherine Fraser, Abi Glen, Bess Heath, Katie Levick, Emma Marlow, Harriet Robson, Mia Rogers, Phoebe Turner, Sophia Turner, Grace Thompson, Mady Villiers, Tahlia Wilson, Emily Windsor

England not allowing centrally contracted players to play tomorrow, so naturally we are up against Essex, who don't have any

England players are allowed to play on Saturday when we go to the Oval against a Surrey side with 4 current England players.... 3 of them top ones

still, we get Lauren Filer back (Yay!) who might be allowed to bowl 5 overs again

I’ve just been reading about that on Twitter. It’s mental that after just having a training camp with a couple of intersquad games they’re stopping players featuring for their counties so they can… go on a training camp with intersquad games.

Poor Bess Heath on the fringes of the England team for years as a 2nd Keeper behind Amy Jones and now 2nd fiddle to our new overseas, at least shes in as a batter

A good start so far

Commentators reckon Lumley End stumps are wonky

Reasonably comfortable win. Essex were up with DL until they started losing wickets. Had they started pulling the ball between square and forward of square 10 overs earlier, the game would have been a lot closer. They played lots of proper shots in the V which brought either 0 or 1.

Tahlia Wilson was class. Just the sort of rock you need at the top of the lineup. Looks a very good keeper, extremely economic with her movement.

We set a decent target today, but I worry about our batting depth. We can get away with it if our top order fires (it was the same last year), but if we lose early wickets then we look like a side with not much more than 200 runs in us.

I only saw the second half today. I think we bowled with some good control (if we ignore the 20 wides), but we didn't really threaten too much. I say ignore the 20 wides, but it's a lot to ignore and we simply can't afford to gift that many runs away too often, given our modest middle order batting.

I was surprised at Essex, if I'm honest. Their top order never really pushed too much, perhaps worried about losing early wickets with the rain floating about. If they'd showed a bit more urgency and a bit less caution, then that 5th wicket partnership might have been a match winning one

Still..... good to get the first win. I think we have it in us to pick up wins against Essex, Somerset and Yorks. If we can find another couple from somewhere we might emulate last season and flirt with being in the mix for 4th or 5th, but perhaps settling for 6th

Surrey will be quaking in their boots on Saturday
