Just wondering what exactly is a benefit year? How much £ will Harmison get and how will it be raised?

It involves a lot of social events arranged by a benefit committee publicising an appearance by Harmison but he wont turn up. That's not just a criticism of Harmy. That's how most benefit events seem to be.

It's basically like a year long testimonial game. It used to be a case where it set the player up for that period of time between retiring and obtaining a new profession. I doubt the likes of Harmison would need one as he will have already made a fair bit of case in his career.

As for how much gets raised, I read somewhere that flintoff raised nearly 2 million quid in his? Amazing how much some people will pay for a round of golf with a celebrity but there you go.

Will people be that arsed about chucking money at Harmison whose performances have got him playing in the 2nd team?

I'd imagine Flintoff got so much as he was still in the England fold when he retired and he went down the TV celebrity route. Harmy just seems to have faded away with bad press conferences along the way.

He's had bad press but he will be remember fondly by people for the 05 Ashes. And those with deep pockets might be tempted for a round of golf with Harmison, Flintoff and others.

But as mentioned, he'll spend most of his time down south for it.

I really hope he gives us a great season as a send off but I can't see it.
