Durham Vs Gloucestershire - Thurs 29th July. One day cup

Got off to a brilliant start thanks to Clarke and Lees. Innings then stalled and it looked like we were a good few short, which turned out to be the case. Gloucestershire had to hit a few boundaries at the death and managed to. I'm not blaming any of the bowlers, as they have carried the team over the last few seasons, and Rushy quite often carried the bowling attack himself. FFS he cant be expected to take 3 or 4 wickets, for not very many, every time he steps over a boundary rope. Two young bowlers got some experience and a few overs into their legs, which is all good. Enjoyed my first visit to Scarbados and even the rain managed to fall during the interval. Pity about the result but we've only ourselves to blame.

The way you go on about Borthwick is bizarre tbh.

Your reluctance to discuss anything on this forum without resorting to trite little digs is pretty bizarre tbf.

I think SB's white ball bowling has been a revelation. Batting and captaincy is a 6/10.

I’ve contributed a dozen or so messages on this thread. Praised plenty, supported the batsmen, commented on the quality of the match. I’ve certainly been far more positive than you have. Disagreed with TM over him criticising the batsmen for getting out being reckless because I simply disagreed with him and commented on you falling over yourself to slag off Borthwicks captaincy because you always do whether it’s justified or not.

Good day out but disappointing that Durham snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the last four overs
I don’t want to single out individuals but field placing and death bowling to what seemed a poor preconceived plan seemed very awry
Also what is killing Durham is the amount of extras ,wides and no balls given away compared to opponents.
We conceded 17 extras today and they conceded 6
Those extra 11 runs would have seen them home
As a side note I think Glos were sharper and quicker in the field than us

Well just home as we stayed in Scarborough for a bit after the game. Obviously gutted we lost but I've had a wonderful day out with the wife and nephew. We've watched a very good & exciting game one One Day Cricket at a time where the competition needs good games and today was one of them at a venue we all enjoyed and were made to feel very welcome. Some absolutely shameful and embarrassing comments on the social media pages but hey ho take it with a pinch of salt as I'm not convinced those people are in any way Durham fans. Good to see Clarky batting well again, some good performances today, some not so good but it is what it is. Fair play to Gloucestershire, good run chase. A week until our next game now, already looking forward to it

Good point about the extras and not just in this match.

Fair comment about their fielding, my wife said a few times "they've had their breakfast", they fielded very well.

Stopped at Darlo last night after the game. This morning with the frustration of the result slowly rescinding and the fact it rained on Wednesday and is pissing down today, it was great we got a full day’s cricket in the sunshine (mostly!). A touch more enjoyable and fulfilling than the 16.4!

I did enjoy (for a while), the bloke in the main stand who was trying to get Gloucs players to run two by hollering 'two', when it was plain that there was never two to to be run.

Agree about the field placing, for a good while they had 4 on the off-side and a boundary sweeper but no-one at midwicket, there must have been about 20 easy singles through there and the extra man on the off-side saved two or three at most. Also when Durham bowled the umpires seemed a lot harsher on wides than when Glos did. They were sharper in the field, it would have been easy for heads to go down when it was 200+ for none in the sunshine but they kept battling away. All in all a great day out though at a cracking place to watch.
