Did anyone off here attend that game?
I was there for the Saturday and Sunday with my late father in law although I couldn't go to the final day as I was at work so missed Botham's farewell.

The first two days were superb -On the Saturday Wayne Larkins scored 151 and I remember his first 38 came from eight 4s and a six. I also remember Merv Hughes wasnt playing but he was bowling in the nets and playing the Pantomime villain to the watching spectators and also he was really impressed with Steve Lugsden bowling in the next net.

On the second day we incredibly made the Aussies follow on as Simon Brown ripped through them taking 7 wickets - they had a bloody good side out as well.

I also remember in the tea break there was a little kid playing with a bat and ball and Merv Hughes came over and bowled at him for the duration while Michael Slater kept wicket surrounded by a hundred spectators in a circle....I dont often say this but it was a lovely touch by the Aussies.:D

Aye, was there for the first two days. Hadn't the Aussies had a few heavy nights in the week which might have explained their performance?!

As already mentioned, Merv Hughes was great with the crowd during the intervals. Great bloke.

😃 Just had a look at the scorecards. Durham's main bowlers were Brown, Cummins, Botham, Phil Berry and Graveney.

England went with Caddick, Bicknell, Ilott and McCague.

Close run thing to say who had the better attack! 😜
Phil Berry - now there's a forgotten Durham name from the past.:D

Decent Top 6 for the Aussies v Durham - Taylor Hayden Boon S Waugh Martyn Border.

I was there, don't remember a lot through a drunken haze but remember Merv being a great gent at tea bowling to kids and signing autograph's unlike some of his teammate's

I went on Sunday and Monday, cant remember much about the Sunday like, used to get mullered in those days. Regardless of how rough the Aussies may have been, not many international teams made them follow on, never mind a new little County side.
