Durham vs Aussies 1926 at Ashbrooke.

I take your point for an urban ground, but watched many a match at Ambleside and Keswick to note a ‘nice’ ground. Maybe I’m a country romantic !!
Yes wonderful picture...thanks for posting.

Used to be some class gigs at ashbrooke cricket club function room as well.

Remember seeing The Futureheads and This Ain’t Vegas in there.

Clarrie Grimmett - considered the first legendary spin bowler went wicketless first innings after bowling 16 overs. Shame the lads for Durham found Mailey unplayable.

I loved playing at Ashbrooke, always had a lovely pitch and although the outfield could sometimes get boggy if just had a good atmosphere. Some grounds are windy as owt some are just uninviting but Ashbrooke was excellent. Shame the rugby lads churn the fucker up.

The 1948 Australians also played there, they were the Invincibles of course, although Bradman didn’t play in that game.
