Getting warmer!

I don't want to be too critical at this stage of the season but it amazes me that Smith and Muchall are still at Durham. Especially given the talent that the management have let go over the last year or so in favour of carrying them two.

problem is we have had two many players nearly good enough instead of a few who were really good, smith, muchall, coetzer, ben harmison... gidman seems to have been a good un we have let go, with his numbers around 6 or 7 and shift everyone up that would help. hope we wont regret letting turner go
 
Not sure how much "talent" we have let go over the years mind. Gidman had a cracking year in Div 2 but would struggle like crazy in the top division.

I am assuming Stoneman needs a good year though, and Muchall has served Durham well over the years. Not the greatest but gives his all and has made some useful contributions.

Muchall kinds of sums up what is wrong with county cricket.

Earns a decent living out of the game, but never has been or will be good enough to push for international honours which is what an elite first class game should be for in this country.

There are at least 200 more pros like Muchall in the English game

Make first class cricket between 8 counties with players all being English that would weed out the dross and improve standards

Correct

However, we should whittle the CCC down to 10 teams.

2 sides from London, 1 from the south coast , 1 from the west country , 2 from the midlands , Glamorgan , Lancs , Yorks and the mighty Durham.
