Durham v Sussex (h) C.C.

I think Durham will be happy with that today. Thought we stuck to our task really well and ever so happy to see my fav Dutchman get 4 wickets, and welcome back to the team Bas. Just an all round good day of county cricket. Also special mention to Drissell, as @The Red Telephone will vouch, I've backed him this season and I was pleased he got his early chance this season, he's not let anyone down and he bowled well today. Onto tomorrow at 11am

George was superb today. Needed someone to tie one end down as the kookaburra does the seamers no favours after about 20 overs or so. Which he did very, very well

I think the best period was when Dris and De Leede were bowling together just after tea. Sussex couldn't cope.

Potts was unlucky, maybe luck will even out and he gets what he deserves in the 2nd innings.

He's developing into a good all-rounder. Economical bowler and a good bat. Fancy DeLeede could do the same if he'd focus more on red ball cricket but the lure of the Franchise schiling appears too tempting.

Good effort from Durham to stick at it although those missed catches where disappointing especially Robinson for the strangle down the leg. Sussex could easily have been dismissed for less than 250.
Thought Potts looked a bit flat especially with the new ball. Good to see De leede take wickets I was beginning to think was he possibly being frozen out after being one of the coaches favourites.
Looking forward to watching Sussex pace attack tomorrow especially if Jofra is anywhere near fit.

Definitely not frozen out

Why are we consistently useless with the quick removal of the tail end?Plus oh Dear the number of dropped catches😕

As frustrating as it was, they bat right the way down like. Plus, credit should be given to the fact they were 220-3 at one point and we were able to take 9 wickets with the kookaburra after being asked to field.

For the record, this Kookaburra experiment is awful and really needs to be binned.

Nervous to see how we bat given the lack of Bedders and the fact they have three international pace bowlers spearheading their attack.

Dris bowled really well today as did de Leede and Raine was as accurate as ever.

Was Jofra just swinging from the hip ?

I wouldn’t say so, he played a few aggressive strokes but was generally fairly correct.

The fact that he only went at 2 an over must’ve been a real help to the team. Although it’s alarming that he was getting decent turn, given their spinner is considerably more skilful and we’ve got to bat last.
.
I see the BBC have gone for the following headline:

“Coles century puts Sussex just on top at Durham”

Not sure I agree, if you win the toss on a flat deck with a kookaburra ball and lose 9 wickets on Day 1 - I doubt you can truly claim to be ‘just on top’.

The Sussex bowlers are very skilful, they may well get more out of it than our lads, but after about 6 overs the ball stopped swinging and apart from some gentle turn for Drissell the pitch offered no assistance whatsoever for the bowlers.

I think Durham should be very happy.

I think they will be to be honest, recent history with the factors considered is that their current score is a fair way below par.

Anyone know if McKinney is injured? Or has he been dropped? Rhodes can consider himself a lucky boy in my opinion for his recall.
