Durham v Middlesex [A] C.C. 1/5/26

They're in charge of the match. They don't need to play Bazball, just score 600+ in the favourable batting conditions and put us in under leaden skies on Sunday and Monday.

Our lack of bowling depth has bitten us on the arse again.
Or it's just flat as a witches tit and were going to get 5 batting points and get a positive draw after losing the toss.

Shite tactics by Middlesex

A fantastic response from Durham with the bat, showing just how negative the Middlesex batting performance was. Our lads belted the ball to all parts on what appears an absolute road and it’s brightened up my mood tenfold after enduring the 140 overs of shite before it.

Another absolute shocker for Lees mind. Seriously, the poor bloke must’ve been given out half a dozen times in the last 12 months when the ball has clearly hit him outside the line of off stump.

Forecast for tomorrow looks as dull as the Middlesex batting performance, so we might have to make do with racking up the batting bonus points and taking the 8 draw points. We’re 146 runs away from avoiding the follow-on, which should we get there will pretty much guarantee (without anything catastrophic) we can’t lose the game.

It's Lords, when it swings there it can really hoop and low scores are possible, so I'll wait and hope before predicting anything.
But those two really did play well today. There's a chance although small, if they can put a big score on the board maybe the 3rd innings will be the one most effected by swing. Maybe.

Just a further point on the umpiring, Potts trapped Bosch bang infront on 403-8 with the first ball of the 135th over. To not give that, yet give Lees, is a pisstake of epic proportions.

Here’s hoping, plus at the rate we score naturally, if we get a couple of sessions in tomorrow we could put them under some real pressure on the last day.

Yeh, it will be overcast which could be of some aid to the bowlers.Maybe Middlesex were aware of the change in weather which could explain their crease occupation.
Lees does seem prone to lbw dismissals - it's unlikely that they're all umpiring errors.

Roach got him out lbw twice in a test match bowling around the wicket, it's a longstanding weakness.

Quite a complimentary write up on Luke Robinson in the Cricketer Newsletter.

" a compelling battle between Robinson and Higgins, who was struck twice by the Sunderland native, first in the kidney area, which floored him, and on the back of the helmet, which dazed him. Twice Higgins required treatment, and twice he remained before being smartly caught at slip by Aldridge to give Raine his 18th first-class five-for.

Settled after what will have been a whirlwind and unplanned opening day of his first-class career, it was another example of the raw pace Robinson possesses on a pitch famed for its benignity. He took his maiden first-class wicket with the final ball of his fourth spell, trapping Toby Roland-Jones lbw with a fine inswinger. A nice way to start".

Yeah, great words those. I have been impressed by his effort in the two days I’ve seen him. His run up and delivery are a whirlwind of arms and legs but he doesn’t half get it down the other end sharp. He seems to have better control than Conners and Hogg too from the limited action I’ve seen.

Probably has little chance of playing in the next two, injuries aside, given the expected inclusion of Stokes, but I hope he can stake a claim for selection as the season goes on.

I like Luke Robinson. He's a good lad who tried hard. Glad to see him given his opportunity.

Since when was Luke Robinson renowned for raw pace? When I've seen him he was medium fast. He's got some mystery balls like slow cutters which makes him a good white ball bowler.
