Durham v Middlesex [A] C.C. 1/5/26

Well when i left the Riverside on Friday evening I thought i may have started my last match thread of the season but an excellent fightback against a very disappointing Lancs bowling attack ruined that.
So off to lords on Friday for Durhams 4th championship match in 5 weeks. So far the top 4 look good as do the tail with the bat. Unfortunately the inevitable injuries to the bowlers are starting to take effect.
As far as the XI for Friday goes I would have thought it all depends if Roach is fit and also when Stokes has been " pencilled in" to return. If neither is available I can possibly see an unchanged team with possibly Luke Robinson getting a run out.
Middlesex look another struggling 2nd division outfit so with decent weather it should be another contest we are strong favourites for.
My Xl would be
Lees
Mckinney
Gay
Bedingham
Clark/Stokes
Robinson
Aldridge
Raine
Potts
Robinson/Roach/Minto
Parkinson

In his post Lancs interview,Campbell mentions injuries to Connors,Bailey and Hogg but doesn't mention Roach. I assumed that he was omitted against Lancs as the 1st omission on the rotation cycle. He added that Stokes will be travelling to Lords with the squad and there to net. 2nds are also in London v Surrey so he'd have no one to net with if he remained in Durham.
So same XI that finished v Lancs imo.
With Roach for Minto maybe

They did not say much on Roach after the initial groin news. Still think our bowling is far to reliant on Potts and Raine both been very good this year.

But the drop off behind them is stark.

Hopefully the ECB don't interfere and allow Potts to play as many CC games as possible, he looks a much better bowler when playing regularly than when he is taken out of Durham to be rested/carry the drinks.

ECB have placed no restrictions on Potts' availability for Durham according to The Cricketer.

Even if Connors is fit he won't be able to play due to the 8 day rule

Middlesex shouldn’t be taken for granted, they’ve had a poor start but they’ve got a lot of talent in their squad and I still fancy them to be in the promotion mix at the business end of the season.

It’s been a magnificent start from Durham, underpinned by the win on Monday. We now (oddly) have three away games in a row to take us to the end of the first portion of the season. A good few weeks could put us in a very strong position as far as promotion is concerned. Hopefully while the going appears good with form and injuries, I hope the lads can go and grab that opportunity by the scruff of the neck. If the rumours are to be believed about Stokes playing 2 of the next 3 that should provide a further boost.

Hopefully Carse will also be available for at least 1 game.He should be recovered from his bruised hand which forced withdrawal from the IPL and should require a red ball game prior to the tests v New Zealand commencing 4th June.

Yeah, totally overlooked him, just assumed they’d keep him to themselves but that would be class.
Durham priced up at 8/15 to win [draw no bet]
Also 5/4 fav to win div 2.

We were joint favourites (with Lancashire) at 2/1 before last week and 11/4 before the season began.

And the bookies don’t get it wrong very often. I wonder what Marty is thinking now after his negative pre season assessment? It’s not unreasonable to think that we’d have beaten Kent but for losing a day of the game.

Absolutely, only Storm Dave has prevented us from being 3 from 3!

Let’s not get carried away just yet though, as good a start as it’s been, a couple of poor performances and we’re mid-table. There’s also the possibility we lose McKinney, Gay and Potts very soon to England/Lions commitments.

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday although the forecast Sunday looks bad.

Morgan and Sharma both look like talented youngsters for Middlesex.
