I really think Stoneman could catch the eyes of the selectors if he makes a few early season runs. Obviously tough if some of those games are at the Riverside in April/May, but I do think he has it in him.

People tell me his record doesn't stand up but I think he does have the character required to play at a higher level, and the guts and fight given how hard he has to graft on our wickets every other week.

On top of that he is captaining the side now, which I know is something the selectors will be impressed at. Personally think he is a better bet than Robson too!

It's a telling sign of how well he's playing and how far he's come when we are pinning our hopes on him (and Scotty). He's now very much a senior player and I think he will be a big player for a few years to come for us.

Thing is, I'm not sure England's selectors will look this far North unfortunately.[DOUBLEPOST=1395748266][/DOUBLEPOST]Mustard gone. 11 runs in the match for him. Into the tail now :(

Not sure geography is much of a factor these days. Stokes and Borthwick both played a role in the Ashes when the selectors could easily have looked elsewhere.

The big thing about Stoneman is he is a stylish looking batsmen and they always catch the eye. Last year was the first season he actually added consistent runs to that talent instead of flashy 20s, i really hope he kicks on.
It is also a big chance for Richardson to bat at no4, the question is can he score the number of runs required at that crucial position, rather than cameos at no8.
I hope they persists with Mustard at no5 he is the best bet out of the players available to do a job there, although they will miss the way he can score vital runs with the tail when batting at no 7.
My biggest concern about the batting is Colly and how much actual batting practice he will have got in before the season starts, i thought he really struggled last season.

jennings, singh, richardson, muchall, collingwood, mustard, coughlin, arshad, pringle, harrison, rushworth

With Mustard up the order at 5 I could see Muchy going in 6 to hopefully be able to steady the ship when required, with Colly on the slide to 7 where he will either get after it or drop in for a long shift.

Get what you say about Rocky, I just think he has the technique and temperament to succeed. Still not convinced by Richardson myself but needs must with our financial situation! Interesting to see where Hastings slots into the 4 day side. Maybe number 8, so 3 from Onions, Rushworth, Wood, Arshad, to go with Hastings, Borthwick, Colly. Especially early season anyway.

140-5 and the lights are on - causing havoc.

Good knock from Rocky. 140-5 effectively. Could do with another 110 atleast.[DOUBLEPOST=1395755254][/DOUBLEPOST]Muchall batting very well by all accounts, we probably need either him to make a ton or one of the other lads to make 50 if we're to win this.

Wouldn't feel comfortable with a lead below 300.

OFF FOR RAIN!!!!!!!

Madness seeing as it's where it is, seems durham can't avoid the rain.

Muchall 50 off 97 balls including 5 fours.

Well batted Gordon, now double it ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1395758251][/DOUBLEPOST]183-6 in effect. Muchall gone. End could be nigh here.[DOUBLEPOST=1395758567][/DOUBLEPOST]Arshad gone. Won't last much longer here. I'm off to take the dog out - suspect we'll be all out by the time I get back.

Hastings will replace Stokes up the order IMO.

Whatever way the result goes, has been a great warm up game for the season. Four of the batters getting a 50+, bowlers with good spells. Ready for the season to start now.

Have to agree. Seeming like 50 short in both innings for us but with a few players to come back in I'm happy that the lads are getting some good mileage covered in time for the start if the season.

unlucky, the stoppages in play really did for us, we were cruising with rocky & muchall in but it all went to pot after the first rain break.

should have played it at lords, at least the weather would be dry ;)

Great that Rocky got 100 and the 5 for from Harrison but I think the biggest plus point has been the amount of bowling Borthwick managed to get in without being smacked about whilst picking up a few wickets.

Managed to listen to a bit of the commentary today, sounds like Coughlin could be a handy cricketer for us. Not sure which MCC cricketer was doing the commentary with Marty at the time but he made the point his style of bowling was ideal for the Riverside. Great to here after the nightmare he had with the back injury last season. Hopefully he and Arshad can keep the more established seamers on their toes especially as both could be classed as bowling all rounders.
