Not disappointed that Coughlin didn't get our 1st wicket of the season

Scotty tying them in knots here. Be nice to bowl them out for around about our score. 12 behind with 4 wickets left - new ball due in 5 overs, could be a tricky time for our openers mind if we do dismiss them tonight.

Good comeback from Harrison and sounds like a good performance from Borthwick, good to see him getting a long spell.

Ended the day 5 runs behind with 9 wickets left (Jennings got a duck)

Did well to pull it back after their second wicket partnership. One thing that's evident is how difficult batting is after Tea. Marty highlighted the fact in commentary that it's difficult for the batsmen when the floodlights take over.

Seemingly tomorrow we'll need to try and make hay while the sun shines, then graft when darkness descends. I reckon a lead of 300 will be handy, but I wouldn't be too confident if we don't manage that.

Expect the pitch to be quite tricky tomorrow though. Lots staying low already. Panesar will probably bowl for most of the day.

Quite surprised at the lack of media coverage of this - I guess that's down to the T20 shite like but still. Odd that Marty is entirely on his own as far as full-time commentary goes. Thought someone like Kevin Howells would've been out there too.

Cracking comeback today, the type of competitiveness that won us the title. Oh, and the dew forming on the pitch ;)

Simple plan innit, pile on the score while the sun shines

You're right like, been interesting to hear their views. Even if Rayner did sound a little slow .

I'm sure he's a lovely bloke though.

Think they are relying on Stoneman and Borthwick or at least one to make a big score if they are going to put a competative total on the board. That may well be a trend through out the season i hope they both kick on after great seasons last year.

Need a centurion I reckon. You're not far wrong about Rocky or Scotty although Richo, Mustard and Arshad are all capable of big runs too.

I know this game is a "one off" and not likely to be replicated at the Riverside, but asking Borthwick to bowl 27 overs and then bat three is difficult.
His main rivals for an England place, Panesar, Kerrigan, Tredwell and Parry can bowl long spells and then "put their feet up".
We also have a bad habit of losing one of our openers early, pushing Borthwick straight back into the action.

im sure he loves the added responsibility and would love games like this at the riverside if you asked him [DOUBLEPOST=1395741684][/DOUBLEPOST]

yes and no - everyone in that line up is capable of puttin gon a decent score - if you went back to the start of last season people were still unconvinced about rocky & scotty was still a number 8 that some people argued shouldn't be in teh side

mustard, collingwood, muchall we know what we'll get with them, just comes down to whether they have a good year or not, hopefully so.
jennings, richardson, arshad [coughlin, wood/pringle/singh] are all capable lads who have not yet proved themselves yet, like rocky & borthwick last season. looking for continued development and consistancy, any good showings from those in brackets and we are working towards next year anarl.

this is the downside [but potential massive upside] of having a young inexperienced side. the young bowlers really came in firing on all cylinders last year, lets hope the batsmen & all rounders can step up to the plate this year

Rocky 50 from 66 balls including 7 fours.

Could do with him making a ton.[DOUBLEPOST=1395746179][/DOUBLEPOST]Richo gone lbw to one that didn't bounce at all. Could be a sign that the lads need to try and push on.

definilty need to push on, we need to have a canny lead by the time the light goes down so we can put them in and use the darkness & dew.

Raining here in dl8

On hang on.....[DOUBLEPOST=1395747105][/DOUBLEPOST]
Borthwick strangled down the leg side first ball of the day. FFS.

Christ our squad is thin enough. And we'll need to pay for a funeral

I really think Stoneman could catch the eyes of the selectors if he makes a few early season runs. Obviously tough if some of those games are at the Riverside in April/May, but I do think he has it in him.

People tell me his record doesn't stand up but I think he does have the character required to play at a higher level, and the guts and fight given how hard he has to graft on our wickets every other week.

On top of that he is captaining the side now, which I know is something the selectors will be impressed at. Personally think he is a better bet than Robson too!
