Durham v Leicester T20

Completely agree. He has served Durham brilliantly ever since he returned. Clearly things haven’t gone quite so well for him in this year’s Blast but, let’s face it, T20 is a complete lottery.

Also totally agreed. When Ben Raine left and played for Leicestershire the biggest compliment I could give him was I didn't like him playing against us. He seemed to have a point to prove, bent his back and bowled quick also he could give the ball some right tap and did. Granted he has not been impressive in this current T20 campaign but that doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Looks like this T20 campaign that started off so promising has ground to a halt.
Mind paying the price for an unbalanced squad When Trevaskis is not available we haven't got any sort of consistent slow bowler we can rely on.

Shortage of good spinners has been the story of our season. Hopefully well learned by Franklin.

Yes but we have one who is 21 and not only a decent slow bowler but a promising all rounder but only play him in one day cricket.
What does everyone think of the ground/atmosphere in general? I think they could do with some refurbs like. Stand I was in had a pool of water bigger than lake Victoria.

RE: stokes and most T20 players. I'm seeing a lot of these scooper/high shots and it doesn't pay off to play that way when they need the runs at the time..
The size and open style of the Riverside means you rarely get much of an atmosphere and the fact we probably only get about 2,500 in for most T20 matches.

Realistically, what can the club do to improve its T20 performance? In my opinion we need a spinner and maybe an overhaul of the lineup. When he wants to, Bancroft can bash boundaries all day long but last night really threw it imo.

That’s the big issue. Despite having no real confidence or expectation of progressing coming into the season I’ve been pleasantly surprised by our performance especially that of the batting (although not in recent games), I think someone like a D’Arcy Short is what we lack. Someone with a real boundary hitting prowess at the top end of the order. We don’t seem to have anyone in the current side capable of smashing 40 off 15 balls at the start. Or even in the middle. We’ve got a lot of the same throughout the lineup. Mind I think the squad will see the complete lack of any form from Stokes as big a surprise as it has a disappointment.

As you say, another spinning option would be ideal. Most sides have 3/4 whereas we only have 2 with a fully fit Trevaskis.

The seam attack has plenty of choice and variation, so that appears fine.

Can't be too hard on the team, DLS is broken in this format. An utter joke, I'm so sick of it.

Just bowl first if any rain about.
I honestly hadn't thought about it until your post. It's like an idiot EUREKA moment

Form you say.

Talking about our T20 campaign with my wife as we watch Wimbledon on the telly. She said l think Rushy might have made a difference, surely he can manage 4 overs. Couldn’t really come up with a good answer!

Having to accommodate Stokes so he can play himself back to fitness for England has totally messed up the balance of the team and our season. Why can't we just tell FTECB to piss off?

It’s always puzzled me why we can’t/don’t find a place in the side for Rushy. Even if we managed his workload and played him in only half the fixtures.

Do you seriously think Franklin at any point would’ve said “Nah, we don’t want Stokes to play T20 for us.”

He’s a world class cricketer, if he’s available, he plays.

He hasn't been consistently world class though, because he hasn't been fit. Very difficult to come up with a plan when you don't know if your best player will take wickets or bowl a load of no balls and get smashed all over.

Its cricket. There’s always a chance your best bowler will get ‘smashed all over’.

It’s why the phrase “you can’t set a field for a bad ball” exists.

Yeah but it's like we've been given instructions to use him like he's fully fit. If I had a great player returning from injury, I'd be phasing him back in, start with second xi then firsts with fewer overs at less critical times, bat him down the order etc to build him up. It's like Durham are under orders to get him fit for England.

I don’t read it like that at all. In any case, he only had to bowl a maximum 4 overs in T20. It’s hardly taxing.

It’s been clear since day one that he’s on his way back from injury and he’ll need game time to get it. 17 overs today seems to suggest he’s there.
