Durham v Kent (h) C.C. ( 3/4/26)

Will be interesting to see if they go with a frontline spinner, ask Ackermann to do a part time role or go with 5 seamers. My guess would be 5 seamers with the starting XI being;

Lees
McKinney
Gay
Bedingham
Rhodes
Clark
Robinson
Aldridge
Raine
Potts
Roach

That's a very strong batting lineup but the bowling attack looks very samey, which could be an issue if the pitch is flat.

Kemar Roach in training. Hopefully he is in the squad

That chain man 👌

There’s something truly majestic about a West Indian quick bustling in with a big gold chain swinging around his neck.

Given the nature of tracks at CLS over the past few years AND Campbell’s normal philosophy regarding balance of a side I’m absolutely certain he’ll have someone in the side who can bowl a bit of spin.

I always like to go into any game with a front line spin option, but our options are so average you end up weakening the team by picking one and Ackermann isn't part of our strongest batting line-up at the moment either.

Is George Drissell injured? Hasn't featured in either pre-season game. I recall him going to Spain for the warm weather camp. As for Ghafari, he needs to improve from last season if he wants a sniff in the squad. He got 5 wkts in the recent Uni game. I wonder how much of Parkinson we'll see this year. Remember he got loaned out to Worcs last year.

Agreed, I always prefer a spinner to give the side a balanced attack but like you say our spin options aren't great. If he picks Parkinson they will likely have to drop either Aldridge or Rhodes which I can't see happening, plus the part time option is Ackermann who alongside Gay are really the only batsmen from the two pre-season games not to make a score.

I think there’s a chance we could go with Potts, Raine and Roach as the main seam options in order to shoehorn a spinner into the side. Rhodes’ medium pace was hugely ineffective for the most part last season but he may have some success in Division Two so he could become the viable option as fourth seamer which would allow us to pick a spinner even if they’re not contributing much with the bat. Potts or Raine would be 8 (the other 9) and then Roach and Parky/Ghafari.

Personally I want Minto in there from game one, but to get him AND a spinner alongside Potts/Raine/Roach likely means Ackermann is your spin option because we’d need the batting. Either that or Potts/Raine would have to go 7 and that’s too long of a tail for my liking.
